Ultimate metal detecting show?

I asked this on another forum once and would like the opinions of those here as well. I think the Diggers show casts our hobby in a light that is very unreal but yes it captivates an audience for a half hour. But a show that would portray reality may be too boring for a national TV show.........or would it?? Would love to hear opinions on what would make a REAL detecting show a success? It would need to be well written as far as a historical standpoint with some detecting and show and tell of course but would love more opinions. Maybe even a catchy name if you think of one? Thanks all

I like the fictional "detectorist" series which is presently being aired . Most all the rest are like a combination of reality shows and infomercials .
A lot of the Youtube videos are starting to be the same way to me . A lot of this crap is wrecking the hobby . Some of the stuff I've being seeing posted on forums are turning me off to them also .Excuse me for a while , I'm going to put on my bullet proof vest .

I find the "Detecting Shows" to be offensive. They do not do us that detect any favors. In fact they are harmful to the hobby. I do not watch them and I do not support those that sponsor them. I find it shameful that Garrett would Brag that their equipment was used. I thought that Garrett was better than that.

It did no good but I sent National Geographic an email outlining all the things that I found wrong with their "Diggers" Show. It is just one of those "Reality" shows that have nothing to do with reality.

Also let NG know that their show had cost me the opportunity to detect a one acre lot where there was evidence that Confederate soldiers camped. The land owner had seen one episode of Diggers and he emphatically let me know that No one who acts like that is welcome on his property. This was after his wife had invited me to come detect the property.

That's what I'm asking.......what would you like to see that would make a great show? Guest speakers? History? Showing the junk? I know the Diggers show sucks.......I'm wondering what would make a better/different show.

If there is Never another Metal Detecting Show on television I will Not be disappointed. Those shows do not benefit those of us who detect.

They only benefit the folks that sell metal detectors. Garrett has reaped huge benefits from their machines being used on Diggers. I see a lot of AT-Pro's and other machines being used in my area by people who have absolutely no idea what they are doing with them. Digging holes improperly, not filling the holes, digging in a park with a shovel, and a host of other sins just like those Rectal Orifices on Diggers.

Shows on Television have to be interesting and if they were to show what actually happens when one metal detects they would have absolutely NO audience.

It is my Not So Humble Opinion that there could never be a Metal Detecting show on Television that would benefit those of us who metal detect.

Howdy Abraham Zincoln--

I think that a detecting show that devoted time to the research of a prospective detecting site would be both informative and at the same time build the suspense for the actual hunt. It could be time spent at the library, studying old maps interviewing "old-timers" etc. The thought process in where to detect, I think would make a detecting TV show watchable. Best of luck and...

Yeah I guess I can see where it could be a bad thing to have a national TV show about detecting. I think I have a really cool idea for a series of shows that would be real and informative about history and detecting (plus loads of other ideas) but after all the input I think I will try to do it on youtube instead. I'm thinking that may be better for our community as a whole. Thanks guys  This is obviously in the planning stages so I would still welcome any input on what kinds of things you would like to see. ;)
