A fairly good sound caught my attention and as I took the second scoop the sound got even better. Knowing I likely found a silver hiding down there I took a big scoop and layed out the pile of mud. I stood up to check the hole and target was still down there hiding from me. I took a biggggg scoop of mud out. ( happy to be in mud hunting ) Spread out the mud with my foot and checked it... No sound checked the hole no sound. What the Heck? I dug a BBBIIIGGGGGGG HONKIN Hole knowing that was a great target that was getting lounder and NADA. I searched from every direction could not find a peep. I finaly left the tunnel to china and moved on. What... Why does that signal come and go like that. OH! Mercury dime stuck in the mud on the side of my shoe. Sore losser wins!

LOL .....too funny..........i had a penny stuck to my glove durring the mud and frost one day ..did the same thing to me ....lol

I went to stick the shovel in the ground..and there was lady mercury laughing at me from inside my shovel!!..u cant make this s... up! HH!:usaflag:

Dave remember before you got a probe,,, you kept waving your plug over your coil... every time beep beep,,, you looked and looked in your plug and couldn't find it... you kept waving it and looking and waving it and looking,,, then ten minutes later you figured out it was the silver ring on your finger!!!!!!!!!!! haha  I cant make to much,, the switch on my probe got fliped,, and it took me 15 minutes to figure out why it was making so much noise lol

funny story! Something that happened to me a few years ago - an old homestead was being converted to a local museum (I had been eyeballing this place for years) I noticed that the page fence around the property had been removed and landscaping had begun (dirt pushed around etc). I took advantage of the situation. I got a target and pinpointed it. As I swung the loop away and set it down to dig, it started chattering at me. Right on TOP of the ground under the loop was a NICE 1773 half reale. I almost fell over! Oh, the original target was an 1898 liberty nickel. The spot turned out pretty good: 3 large cents, 4 indians (2 fatties), 1 merc, 1 beautiful 1838 seated quarter and some flat buttons. The foreman would't let me continue because of "liability" issues.

Rusty iron will give a really good sound in wet ground. If you hit with a digger and break it up it will disappear. The signal will also change as soon as it hits air. I've had this happen at times.

enjoyed reading about all you guys losing the target!!!! now i know i'm not outta my mind when that happens--hh
