UH OH........New AT Pro, same old problem?

OK Got my AT Pro about 2 weeks ago, brand new, 1 of the new style with the cam locks, longer shaft and "better waterproofing". Have used it about 3 times with awesome results, really really impressed with it. Took it out this morning in a light rainfall, used it for about 30 minutes and all of a sudden the display is jumping around with numbers, audio beeping and bonking like crazy. I turned it off and back on, just a few seconds it does it again :(. I turned it off, removed the coil cover and turned it back on, same thing. I turned it off and ended my hunt, I think it got wet from the light rain, toatally unacceptable from a detector that is supposed to be "all terrain" and "waterproof to 10 feet". I will be sending it back to Garret next week, I really hope that they will cover the shipping on this brand new detector with apparently the same old problem. GRRRRRRRR. I do know that Garret will take care of me, but still this is a major inconvenience as I have some off days coming up with several hunts planned.

try tightening or removing and reinstalling the coil wire from the main unit. That worked for me.

Mine is doing the same thing with the stock DD coil...It is fine with the smaller concentric...

HH,

Add pressure to the plug while at the same time turning that threaded circular piece. I too had a similar situation switching coils. Good luck! I hope that will do the trick. :)

Turn it off for a few minutes, then try it again in a different location. I had the same issue happen a few times this summer, and I thought something was very wrong. I think it might have been EMI. It was very frustrating, and it still happens from time to time. I might send it in to be checked, but it works good 99% of the time.

Mine did the same thing twice in my yard last week (same thing happened a few months back). It was going crazy and when I attempted to turn it off, the audio shut down but the display would not. I had to take the batteries out to completely shut the unit down. The battery indicator at the time was down to one bar so I put new ones in and so far so good, but I'm not certain that I fixed the problem. Hope I don't have to call Garrett again.

Mine has done that twice. Like ML, I put new batterys in and it worked fine. ( both times the batterys were down to one bar. maybe you just have some bad batterys.

Try this: With the unit turned off, remove the battery cover but not the battery pack. Reach in with your finger and push the battery pack firmly against the terminals. While holding pressure with your finger on the battery pack, turn the unit on and see if the same behavior exists. EMI is another possibility and there you need to move to a quiet area away from power lines, transformers, etc. Trouble shooting is a process of elimination and this should tell you one way or the other if it is power supply related.

As I said in my original post, this is a BRAND NEW detector, with less than 10 hours use, battery meter showing full so that is not the problem, EMI is not the problem as I had been hunting in the same area for 30 minutes with no problems and there is no sources of EMI in the area. This happened during a steady rain, and I am pretty sure it leaked. I will try tightening the coil cable but I really do not think that is the issue. Thanks for all suggestions but I think the water is the culprit. Thanks

Call Garrett and explain what happen and tell them about shipping cost. They should send you a shipping label by e-mail so you don't have to pay and tell them about your trip. I had the same situation and they shipped me a new one out the same day I sent mine back in. sent my old one back on a Monday and had the new on that Wednesday. !

OK thanks, I will do that. It is an inconvenience but I do know for a fact that they will take care of me. Thanks again.
