Got this one a couple of days ago, along with the 14 K Gold Band that day....there were not many targets, but this was a keeper, and went into the special pocket... This is before the clean up... At first glance, I thought that I may have had a pewter button with a Cannon Ball on one side, but looking through the loupe , I found that there are holes on either side of the ball where the thread went through it... So I am thinking that's the back side, or shank... Then I took some close ups, and I think I can see U.S. on the other side... Can anyone else see it ? Or are my eyes going bad on me ? Thanks for the help and for looking... Happy Huntinting everyone...

Nice find! (ring too)...I can't really see any hint of US on it myself, but for sure it looks old. Ever think about using electralysis on it? It'll bust that crud right off it and they are easy to make with a small wall DC transformer say that was used to power an answering machine or charge a cell phone. When I dig a copper or brass item that is crudded up bad like that I'll blast it for about 5 to 10 minutes and that crud will just fall right off. Another trick is to heat it up over a candle and then throw it into cold water and it'll shock the crud off it.

Of course any of these things might destroy it if there is nothing under that crud, or it might also kill any value it has.
