U/I Brass "pole tip"???

Can anyone ID the brass/copper item next to the three ringer? The item is hollow and has a small hole (not seen in photo) where a nail might have have secured it to a pole. Thanks!

I've been told the same thing: flag pole attachment. The key fits into a "frog" device worn on the Color Bearer's waist. I have no proof of this, but it makes sense. Similar to a gimble belt worn by big game fishermen...and women

As stated on the Whatzit forum, it's a whiffletree tip from a buggy or cart hitch. A whiffletree is a pole to which the harness traces are attached.
Sorry I can't post pix, but there's an identical one on p. 596 of the Montgomery Ward & Co. Catalogue No. 57, Spring & Summer 1895; and on p. 61 of the Sears, Roebuck & Co. Catalogue No. 104, 1897.
Hope this helps...

Amazing how much we can learn from this forum Those have always kept me wondering. I wish someone would publish a book on vintage "whatzits." Thanks for the ID Buckram. Good hunting, David @ Dixie
