I have been using the super 12 on my mxt since it came out, it works just find. But I was wondering if anyone has been using, any of the dd coils with it and have any luck, out on long island?

Go back thru the posts and you will find a lot of posts talking about smaller DD coils. I don't know what kind of areas you are hunting but if you are hunting in trashy areas, you will be suprised how you finds will increase using a smaller DD coil compared to the super 12 coil. JMHO. I have ordered me a 6" excelerator coil for my MXT. I use the 12 tooo but I think I need something else too

I was not able to use 12`` at all because of lot of trash in NY. Now I use 6x4. I still do not find nothing of value but at least I see that my MXT works.

The 4.5x7" Excelerator works nice.

I also have 4x6 excelerator but I hesitate to use it because it is not Whites but aftermarket. Is it really better than Whites 4x6 DD ?

I have never heard of a 4x6 excelerator, only the 4.5x7 DD Excelerator. Excelerator coils are excellent coils and are used by alot of folks. Read past posts in regards to them. HH Dennis in Idaho

4.5x7 you are right.

so it is better than whites 4x6 DD ?

I can't answer as to whether the 4.5X7 is "better" as I don't have it. However, I do use the White's 4X6DD a lot in trash and it is the best combination I've ever used on any of the detectors I've owned for handling heavy trash. My guess would be that both coils would be quite similar as the sizes are comparable. If you've got trash problems, go to a smaller coil, hunt more slowly and thoroughly and definitely use a smaller coil. My two bits.

I own a 4.5 X 7 DD Excelerator its a very good coil, I've got a Friend that has a 4 X 6 DD and I have used it. I really can't tell the difference between the two except that the 4.5 X 7 will cover about 1'' more ground. But they both are very good coils in trashy areas. Now they say the 4.5 X 7 will go deeper but again I could not tell any difference.

I don't use the 4.5x7 DD Excelerator as much as my wife does and she swears by hers. We used to use the 4x6 coil, but we wanted one with a bigger footprint and still be able to hunt in heavy trash like the 4x6. Well the 4.5x7 fit the bill. It has a larger foot print and works trash just as well as the 4x6. I would not say that the 4.5x7 is better than the 4x6, its just that we perfer it over the 4x6. HH Dennis in Idaho

I agree 100% with you Dennis.

So, if the consensus is that the 4x6 DD Shooter and the 4.5x7 Excelerator are about equal in productivity (apart from a difference in area covered), how do those two compare to White's Eclipse 5.3?

I ask because when the day comes that I actually buy my MXT, I'm planning on trying some gold nugget hunting. It's a foregone conclusion that I'll buy the 6x10 DD, since virtually everyone here raves about it, but for small gold a few people in this forum have mentioned a preference for the 5.3 instead of the 4x6. Has anyone here been able to directly compare the 5.3 with the 4x6 shooter and/or with the Excelerator 4.5x7? For any purposes, of course, but especially for gold nugget hunting?

Thanks in advance-

I have both the 4X6 and the 5.3 as they came as part of the deal when I bought my detector (lightly used). I've read where others prefer the 5.3 even in trashy areas, but I haven't personally felt it served me as well in the trash as the 4X6. Some use the 5.3 as their main coil and due to a bit more depth, it may be a better choice in that respect. I've come to like the 6X10 DD for that purpose as it has a good footprint, decent depth and handles trash better than the stock 9.5 in my opinion. As to nugget hunting I think either the 4X6 or the 5.3 could be quite useful, but in theory the 4X6 being a DD should handle hot ground better. Also, the elliptical shape can be a bit easier to snake thru the rocks etc. when prospecting. When it's all said and done, I find that I like the flexibility offered by having all the coils mentioned as there are times when any one may fit the situation better than the others. My two bits.

Thank you, Barber Bill. I understand what you're saying. MD'ing is a pastime I intend to take up next year, but I need to watch my pocketbook and really shouldn't spend more than is necessary right at the outset. I shouldn't buy both the 5.3 and the 4x6 right away. I asked the question because I distinctly remember some posts from someone

If your using the MXT then the best all around coil you need is the 6X10 DD to find gold. You put that coil with your MXT and you basically have the GMT which is one of the best gold detectors on the market. MXT + 6X10 DD = GMT:thumbup:
