I won't disagree with Terry that TTF is a great setup for hunting old farmsites and open field areas. But recognize that TTF is not magic. It is merely the ability to have one of two tones for each target..... typically a low tone for ferrous readings 17 and greater. And a high tone for ferrous readings less than 17. Nothing more, nothing less. If you like that, you can implement that same "program" on your CTX. In fact I wrote a two-part series regarding TTF on Minelab's website that you might find entertaining, if not slightly educational.

But for those familiar with the CTX, the question many of us would as is "why limit yourself"? As doc1964 points out, there are so many more options available with the CTX, why not implement them?
As I've stated since the CTX was released, I'm not opposed to anyone wanting to share programs on this forum. Seeing what others are using sometimes gives us the reinforcement that we are "on the right track". However, knowing that what works well for one person might not be the best choice for another.....I encourage everyone to get to know the functionality of the CTX and build a new program based on your preferences, for your sites, and your style of hunting. Set the size of the bins to reflect the target groups you want to differentiate. Assign audio tone profiles to suit your hearing preferences. Determine whether you want to "hear it all" or let the discrimination sort out some of the trash. Practice with various settings on the same target before you dig......these are things that will help determine what works best for the targets you seek, at the sites you hunt.
I started out by saying TTF isn't magic. I will close by saying that any settings that any of us have come up with on the CTX are not magic either. They just happen to be what we have tried in the field, with measured success, and wanted to pass along to those willing to try them out. Like I said, if you come up with some that you think others can benefit from, post them up and tell us why they worked "best" for you. And if you'd like, I'd be happy to add them to those that are in the CTX Resource forum. JMHO HH Randy
