Two Silvers Today, BUT......

Not with one of my Tesoro's! I purchased a Fisher F70 with the 11 DD coil as my "metered" deep hitting machine, and a Tesoro Tejon as my "non metered" deep hitter. I took both detectors to an old home site that I have hit hard for the last few weeks with my DeLeon and Bandido II. I grabbed the Fisher since it was the closest detector when I opened the rear door gate. After about 10 minutes, I was about ready to put the Fisher up and grab the Tejon. I know there's a learning curve with the F70 and it's very sensitive, but this thing was making all kinds of noises and acted like it was possessed. I made a few adjustments to the sensitivity a started to get the hang of the F70's tones, etc. It's amazing how after using Tesoro's, your listening skills greatly improve on different sounds!

Anyway, I only made a run along a walkway that I had gone over carefully with the DeLeon and Bandido. Within 30 minutes, I had two silvers. Both at around 8 to 10 inches with strong signals and dime readings. I pulled up 6 to 8 pennies that I had previously missed along the same walkway in previous weeks. I'm not sure if the D and B II missed them, if I missed them, or they just weren't deep enough, but needless to say, I need to keep hitting this place hard! I only had a few hours to detect today, so I didn't get to use the Tejon, but tomorrow is Tejon time! I'll hit the same areas with the Tejon tomorrow and see how the "non metered" deep hitter does. Should be interesting. Come On Tejon!!!

Congrats on the silver Trent! you're knocking em out...... I've just got a new Vaquero and another of the old Silver Sabre units..... waiting on the 5 pin 5.75 coil to get here for the Silver Sabre units. I think they'll be hot on them. have'nt had much detecting time like I would like to have.... spring time is our buisiest time where I work. Keep up the good posts,
HH,
Jay

Well, hit the site again this morning for a couple of hours and used the Tejon. Started going over the same areas as yesterday, using the 5.75. The Tejon gave a clear signal right next to an old flower bed. Appx 8 inches down, out pops a Buffalo Nickel! My first BN ever and I gouged the S%&T out of it:ranting:

Anyway, I also picked up a few additional pennies and some small pieces of metal a frickin a foot down! The Tejon goes super deep on very small stuff. As with every Tesoro, the Tejon was light weight and easy to swing. My only issue was that every time I thumbed the Disc, my thumb would move the GB knob. I'm looking forward to getting more "seat time" on the Tejon and learning it's language.

After using the F70 and Tejon, it's already clear that both have some really great Pro's and a few Con's as well. When I get more time on both of them, I'll do a comparison on the two. Both are very deep hitters and I'm pleased with them both. I think they'll both fill the roles that I bought them for with no problem!

I'll have me a Tejon by the end of this week, thanks for the report. Looking forward to finding some of the deeper stuff.

Congrats on the Buffalo. In my time with the Tejon it has just hammered the nickles out of the ground.

If you continue to knock the GB knob, look for a smaller knob or just take the knob off. With the knob off, it is a bit harder to make large GB adjustments quickly, but sure helps keeping from bump adjusting it. Many also have put O rings under the knobs to create more friction and prevent bump adjustments.

Yes, I have heard of folks doing the O-ring mod and it sounds like a winner. Are there any posts on what size O-rings to use, or better yet, an illustrated "how to" for the O-ring mod? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ohp..with the alt discrim of the Tejon, most times you don't have to do that. Just set up the main discrim just above iron or foil and then the alt discrim right where nickels just start to break up and you got a perfect coin check mode. Get a hit, use the trigger to activate alt discrim, and if it still sounds sharp, its a good chance its a coin. If it breaks up a bit, then it may be a nickel or possibly a gold ring.

When you start to figure out different uses of the alternate discrimination based on the conditions you are hunting in, the Tejon becomes a really great coin shooter..especially with the small coil.

Trent, you're gonna find that the Tejon loves those nickels! lol it really does....

I,ve had my tejon for a couple of weeks now and just love it:cheekkiss:. I have been hitting places that I have hammered over the years. My Nickle count has sky rocketed. Found two silvers Merc. wheat's, couple of cheap rings, women's watch. my clad count has risen. I just can't say enough good things about the TEJON:thumbup:

Thanks for the info JC. Obviously that makes sense and I'll give that a shot!

Any other "tips or tricks" that anyone uses for the Tejon? I'm always eager to learn from more experienced users and apply that knowledge to my hunting style and particular detector. I'm curious how folks set their Tejon's for the types of hunting I do. 50% old home sites for coins, etc and 50% Ghost towns for a little bit of everything, but mostly coins also. How would you guys set up your Tejon's for these scenarios?

I have an extra o-ring that I would be more than happy to give you if you like. Just send me an email with your name and address and I will put one in an envelope and sent it off to you. My email address is skiwhiz1960@gmail.com To get the ground balance knob off a Tejon you will need a 1.5mm allen wrench & there are 2 set screws on the knob. Steve.
