Two Scoops

I'm looking to get a long-handled scoop to use at the beach
along the shore where the sand is wet to water knee deep.
There's two basic designs: closed all the way around
and open at the top. Anyone used both? Preferences?

I use them both, you can get the sunspot stealth with a plate welded across the top so its not as open.

My main scoop is the Babbs scoop with the stainless lip.

The one with the wooden handle is perfect ! the other one may be good with "dry" sand flow. But the one w/ the wood handle would drain wet sand alot quicker and won't clog up. And it will penetrate alot quicker.
Just my opinion. I've used both types.

Rusty the Babbs scoop is not very good in the sand, its a water scoop and its my main scoop and works great.

Its ok... Water still murky from the 8 inches of rain we had over the weekend... I enjoyed seeing your finds when you were down south :)

The great advantage o the sunspot scoop is that you can look at what's in the scoop from the top and don't have to turn it all over and around to look into the closed scoop. The draining properties are incredible, the wooden stem floats in the water and I think the setup is lighter due to all the holes.

I saw baechcomber's post and am waiting breathlessly
to see the final product. kaptainkosmic also has
a nice-looking scoop.

Thanks everyone for posting. It's always tough to decide
what to purchase. There is no one size fits all.
