how good was the xt17000 for gold?question two.what is the best vlf gold detector to use?i can't afford a pi. so please help.bye for now, blowfly

It was good enough...the area and the operator are the most important factors.
This is no BEST detector for everything....the two most popular for strictly nugget hunting are the goldbug and gmt...
a very good multi-use vlf is the Xterra 70 or 705 with a dd coil...the lobo supertrac too...
where will you be detecting and what is the terrain? too many factors for the simple reply you may have hoped for...read the back posts on various forums and you will see what I mean

You might find the ground conditions at the Georgetown Mining District, inc. Flat Creek to hot for VLF detectors, even some PI units can find it a challenge. (very operator dependant)
There is always the exceptions, an operator with a high degree of patience and local knowledge could have some success with a VLF unit.
