Two questions about the MXT

I just got an MXT after using a ClassicIII for several years, and I love this thing. But I have two simple questions about it.
1. Is there a reason why the ID readings are not averaged like some other machines? I am still getting used to them jumping around on each sweep.
2. Do must of you hunt with the threshold just barely audible? My Classic III was a "silent search" machine, so I am not quite used to the low background hum yet.
I guess my ears have been used to quiet between beeps
and I was used to listening to every little tweet and
bleep as something useful, so I am not sure what to do with this new auditory info.
Thanks

The software algorithm to average is not in the MXT firmware.

I do.

For q #2. I have a slight threshold. But if you are use to having silent search, then go ahead and crank it down to silent.

If the meter was constantly averaging the targets, when you switched targets, or had multiple targets, then the target ID would be off. You can actually use this to your advantage in a multiple target situation.
whether I hunt in silent search or not depends entirely upon my mood, to be frank. BUT, IF you are looking to get the absolute maximum depth detectability out of the machine, then you will need to run w/ a slight threshold in order to catch the subtle changes in threshold. Hope this helps. HH. Phil.

after a while you get a feel for the tiny shallow stuff verses the deeper larger stuff, at first even the tiny stuff will give a solid id but soon you can tell the difference.

I was out hunting today in a real trashy area
and it really makes a lot of sense after doing that.
My Classic didn't have any target ID so I had nothing
to compare to with the readouts, of course.
Pulled some clad out of a mess of iron and poptops where I had been coming up empty before. This machine
is getting more fun all the time.
