Two Questions About Scoops

Greetings,

I purchased my Quattro last year and had a blast at the beach
digging up coke cans and loose change -- lots of great experience
and it was very satisfying retrieving in sand that still had
footprints of other detectorists.

Question 1 regarding sand scoops:
However, I had purchased an aluminum sand scoop and it was a bear
shaking out the wet sand when retriving near the water line.
After a search, I read that stainless steel (SS) scoops don't hold
the sand like their aluminum counterparts. Before shelling out
$32+ postage for a SS scoop, I thought I'd ping y'all to ask
your opinion if a SS scoop would make that much difference
in wet sand.

Question 2 regarding long-handled scoops: Even though the Quatto
is not water proof, I'd still like to try to retrieve targets
at the water's edge. Those hand scoops are kinda worthless there
and am considering a long-handled scoop like RTG's Monster
(or mini-monster). My options there are a 5" or 6" diameter,
and a screen or 5/8" holes. I read where sand falls through
the screen scoops easier but don't hold up as long with constant
foot pressure. I'm only going to get to the beach a 1/2
dozen times during the year, so, I don't think longevity would
be too much of a problem. I thought I'd solicit a few opinions
regarding scoops in shallow water. Would a monster be overkill?
Dare I go near the water's edge with a Quattro? It does seem
kinda scarey?

and will not cost to much and will hold up for sometime

not s/s.............5"

at s/s model would be much nicer, few more scooters

6" is much nicer tooo

Maja,

The scoops on the bottom of your post.. The one on the left is best in dry sand and the one on the right in the water, The bigger the better when in the water.. You can also look at Babbs scoops or even Sunspot scoops for in the water... If I had a land detector I wouldn't chance taking it near the water, it takes just one errant wave to ruin your day..
