Two more to the nickel tally + Wheats

detectorbase

Went for a good hunt today. I've skimmed this spot over the years... never really taking any time here. Since I knew that my efforts were lack luster at best here, I was hoping that I'd find a few keepers if I put some effort into it. This was the first time with the new detector, so I was optimistic.

The hunted turned out great! Many targets, in fact I ended because I was running out of time, not targets. I'm excited to return.. maybe later this evening, or tomorrow.

My finds...

1910 Wheat
1910 Wheat
1912 Wheat
1914 Wheat
1919 S Wheat
1924 S Wheat
1945 S Wheat
1918 S Buffalo
1919 Buffalo (but it could be 1929, definitely ends with 9)

I'll be heading back tomorrow with the 5", I think there are few more finds to be found.. that's for sure. Maybe silver might make an appearance.. hope so.

Thanks for looking!

These coins were all around 5-6". I'm hoping for some more silver, but I know there are few more nickels to be had as well.

Any particular machine setting that you find work well with your 5" coil?

I bought one because my 1800s lawn is hammered with iron trash.

You know.. I run it with the same settings as the 8" of mine. I think the trick (and I'm still along ways away from figurin' it out) is to go slow and at different angles with the 5". I'm also playing with the sensitivity.. cranking it up AND cranking it down to get better target separation... the 5" is definitly not my funnest coil to use. I mainly have issues with this coil because of my patience (coverage area is so small). You have to move slow, and have tons of patience, and I think I really need to work on that aspect of my swing discipline.

I have found some good coins with it though. Normally I like to cover with the 8" and then come back and pick at the trashy spots later with the 5", and then rescan with the 8" again.

The Buffalo Nickel looks definetly like a 1919 in the pic. Nice finds and hope you find a few Silver on your next hunt. Good Luck and HH.
