Two More Big Ones!

Monday here in my part of Ohio was one of the nicest days we have had for a couple of weeks and we planned to get out for a long hunt but Diane woke up not feeling too well but she insisted that I go out anyway. So I went out for a couple of hours I was anxious to get back home to see how she was doing. I went to a field that has been good to us and it continued in this vein. I was able to dig a nice strap buckle, and if anyone has any input on it I would appreciate it since other CW military items have come from this field and I was wondering if this may be as well. Also two more Large Cents turned up. These brought the total to 9 from this field! An 1845 Braided Hair and the 1828 Matron Head are both in decent shape other than the corrosion from the fertilizer.

Not bad Bell. I hope Diane gets better quick.

Your getting it done.

Great finds! I'm curious how deep the coins were? I'm still plugging along searching a field in Virginia that may have seen troop movement during the Civil War.

In fields there is quite a variance about depth, most the Large Cents this year have been between 2" to 6". If the field has not been turned probable average would be about 4" if it has been turned it can be any depth. Now I have found a lot of coins in fields on top of the ground even when it has not been turned, primarily Indian Heads for some reason. Just last week picked up an 1865 Indian on top of the ground after we had a few days of steady rain.
