Two iron objects from Civil War battlefield site

Hello all, I am stumped on these two iron relics. I am hunting a Civil War battlefield site, and was digging the iron signals to try to find some artillery frags. I do not recognize either of them as being distinctly Civil War.

First is an iron handled something? Anyone have a clue?

Second is a hollow irregular bulbous thing with a ring on one side. It is about as big as two softballs smashed together. It has wat appears to be a spout or opening. It was whole when I dug it, it came open during transport. Nothing inside but dirt. What could it be? A mold of sorts? It is too irregular to be any kind of artillery. I included three photos of the goofy looking thing.

I appreciate any and all assistance.

The first item is the iron hardware from one side of a Single Tree Yoke Harness. I see you found of footwear from the horses as well. :)

Thanks Aaron, I appreciate it. I figured it had something to do with animals. I did also dig one complete shoe and one half, along with a snaffel bit and only one artillery frag.

Now, the other item really puzzles me!

A -- I'm laughing right now as I realize you have the knowledge to identify 99% of the stuff people post -- if only you had taught my college history classes

I actually find a lot of the same things that are posted on here. I have one of these pieces of harness trees that I found a couple days before this was posted. Its kinda fun figuring out what this stuff is. I'm always surprised when I get to ID something before Taz or some of the other folks on here, I figure I just check the forums before they do....
