I think I understand now. The Senstivity control and the Threshold controls are independantly controlled signal amplifiers.
I know the in the past, I and others have referenced a squelch control, but my air test is showing different.
Looking at the chart, you will see that Threshold affects depth more than Sensitivity.
Sensitivity is the base amp, much like a pre-amp, and Threshold is the primary amp.
To explain the chart:
At each Sensitivity setting, beginning with 0 and stepping up to 10, I tested multiple Threshold settings, beginning at -95 and stepping up to +4. A clad quarter was used as the target. The depth is not revelant to the ground, it is only revelant to looking the Sensitivity/Threshold relationship. Test was conducted in my living room with lights and the TV on. <img src="/metal/html/glasses.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt="">
Sensitivity at a -95 Threshold is the signal base with the Threshold amp activated.
I may be technically incorrect, but the theory makes sense to me and helps me to understand how the two controls relate to each other, which will help me set up in the field, and how to trade off settings due to interference, trash, etc.
