Two Hunts in One (One Typical One in the style of John in West Va.)

Out for much too long today. My elbow is aching. First two hours at the old sled hill. That's all the stuff to the left of the pennies. The shell is 44 mag. The slug is around 30 cal. The key is huge. Cool anchor button. I skipped over it a few times and finally dug it. One wheat cent with a very weak date but I think it is 1919 or maybe 1909. The stuff to the right of the pennies is from an old mansion which is near the sled hill. I do not have express permission to hunt there yet but I started walking toward it and there I was so I poked around for a while. 4 wheat cents. Piece of a watch. Older key. Several shells. Several whatzits including the large many sided, around 12, thing that registered as a dime. Was pretty sure I had one. Nice strong signal at around 6 inches and out popped that thing. It is larger than a silver dollar. A few other blobs of metal. I located signs of the old clothesline and saw someone had beat me to it and I know who. (I'm sure this is my friends secret spot.) I did find some metal under it but no coins. There were a few out buildings that were just roofs on the ground. There is a modern deer stand out back. I found the wheats in the front of the house one by the front steps, 2 in the same hole in the front yard, and one about 3 feet from that. I hunted for over 3 hours and did not score any silver. I don't think this place ever had an outhouse. Where should I be concentrating? The house sits on over 300 acres but I would call the yard 3 or 4 acres. These people were very well to do. No one has lived there since the 1960s. It is a 20-25 room stone house (everybody in town calls it a mansion.) In a month or so the grass will be too tall to go back.

It is the second site that I would call a John in West Va site. If there was a miners tag in there it would match a lot of the loot he finds. Not my usual style of hunting but still a lot of fun. As I said, my right arm is really beat. That means I'll be back at it tomorrow.

I have had car problems which put a damper on my MD'ing. As of this evening the problem has been resolved. I will be back with a vengeance. A house was vacated near my parent's house and it looks like a good old one. In two weeks they will be tearing them down and grading the soil. They do that in phases. They move people out of a group of homes and then tear them down. I get to detect them twice.
