Two Hunts - First 11" coil then the 6" coil

I received permission to hunt two adjacent lots in my hometown. One lot recently had the 1920's house demo-ed, the other lot has a house probably built in the 1940s. The empty lot has had blade work done then disked and tilled for a garden. These lots are a half block from the town square, so probably had houses earlier than these two. I hunted a 150' long strip, from the sidewalk in about 20 feet. This covered the front yards. I was using a pattern I created that was my "medium disc" pattern, and pattern 2 is open except the bottom ferrous line. The yards are black dirt, but littered with old nails, aluminum, etc. I had FAST on DEEP off, Ferrous-Coin, and AUTO +3. Most of the time the sensitivity was running 24-27. Yesterday, I used the 11" coil and hunted for about 3 hours. I recovered a total of 38 "keeper" targets, which include 1-1944 Washington quarter, 1-1891 Indian cent, & 5-Wheaties. Today I went back used all the same settings, but changed to the 6" coil. I hunted 4 hours and covered the exact same area as yesterday. Today I got 41 "keeper" targets. Included was 1-1907 Barber dime & 8-Wheaties. I was very surprised that I recovered that many items today. A lot of the items I dug today had iron in the holes as well as the coin. So far, I am finding this small coil is very good in the trash. I would work the target, once I would get a high pitch chirp, even if I thought it was only a nail. I ended up digging several of these and often there was a coin along with iron in the hole. However, old roofing nails were still fooling me. As far as depth difference, This 6" coil was locating targets every bit as deep as the 11" did. Maybe the 11" was hindered somewhat in depth by all the trash near the good targets? All in all, it was a very pleasant two days of hunting: 2-silvers, an Indian, and 13 Wheaties. More important, I was getting a feel for these two coils and this new machine. All summer, here in Missouri, it was too dry to do much land hunting, but the 6"+ of rain within the last week or two has changed that......HH

C&RHunter, I think that your finds are great. Especially the second day over the same ground with the 6" coil. Isn't it unbelievable that you missed that much on the first run with the 11" coil. I would be happy with either one of those hunts. We have not had as much rain as you here in KY, but what we have had sure make digging easier.Congrats on your finds.
