Two Hours Riding Galloping White Horses at Horseshoe Bay

Hurricane Bertha has been making her way patiently towards Bermuda for the past week and is now hovering off our shores. Bertha seems to have stalled for the moment as a front pushing in from the Eastern Seaboard holds her in check at least for the moment. We're not experiencing the hurricane yet but we're certainly experiencing the surf kicked up by Bertha, especially along the South Shore Beaches.

With that knowledge in mind I headed down to Horseshoe Bay at the crack of dawn to see what might be stirred up in the way of loot for this here Surf Pirate.
Here's what it looked like from the park overlooking Horseshoe Bay, not too bad really.

Here's what it looked like when I got down to the beach proper, a bit of a pucker factor there.:laugh:

That's a Rip Current running in the foreground of the picture. 10 minutes earlier I had talked a middle aged, tourist couple into staying out of the water as he wanted to go body surfing at just that spot. She was willing to listen to reason but he managed to get in two rides before an 8' to 9' rogue wave picked him up and cartwheeled him up into the shallows, that was enough for him.:surrender:

The beaches are heavily posted right now because of the dangers of heavy surf and rip currents. The lifeguards will have their hands full today trying to keep daredevils out of the water. Just a lone surfer, a surf pirate and the crazy tourist couple in the water during my two hours riding the bucking bronco at Horseshoe this morning. I may have gold fever but I wasn't going in above my waist today.:nono: I promised the Princess I would play it safe and I always keep my word.

Cheers All,

[size=medium]Rough conditions, but a very nice ring. More like bucking broncos I'd say. It must have been tough getting battered around in that surf. Wife and I love the pics you always post at Horseshoe Bay.

Happy Hunting!!! :detecting:

Awesome pics and find. Hope you will stay safe.

Nice find BDA... I was hoping it would come closer to the US here.. we haven't had a good storm in years and we need a good cleansing ;)

Thanks Mate, it was a rough ride for sure and I wished I'd taken my inflatable life vest with me as I came very close to be sucked out to the reefs on two occassions. It was a rush to hunt the big surf again, been awhile but it's like riding a bike. I lost a fair bit of time talking those dumb tourists out of going swimming but something had to be said. I finally had to tell them that if they went swimming they would come out dead at the point in an hour or two, PEOPLE!:rage::confused::ban:
Here's a honey that brightened my day when I scoped out conditions at Horseshoe yesterday.(it was a lot calmer yesterday)

Great day!!!
