Two Half pennies does equal a Whole in the TWILIGHT ZONE

I hunt alot of recreational areas (football, baseball, soccer fields) and "Penny Park"
I find my share of deformed coins, bent ect... and I have found many half coins,
but today I found the other half. A 1986 memorial hit by a lawn mower (my guess), I found the big section digging a VDI of 68, it was about an inch under ground. The smaller half was several feet away and about 2 inches deep and VDI'd about 65. They match up perfect.

I only found $1.31 counting the two penny halves, before we had a thunderstorm, so the two halfers are the high point of todays a.m. hunt

I would have never found them if I wasn't digging :pulltab: 's

Looks like they got Ole' ABE right through the neck.
Well centered on the radius.
I can't see any deformation to the clad metal as malleable copper would have had.
Interesting find QH!

Happy Resurrection Day (Easter)

Well I guess the problem is the coin is a 1986 memorial, its only got a 2 1/2 % coating of copper, the other 97 1/2 % being zinc, and zinc doesn't get malleable untill you heat it up to about 300 F. I've found several like it but only one of the halves......I've got a "quarter dollar' half somewhere, I'll post if if I can "find" it.

Happy Easter back at ya,

QH
