On Monday my Brother in Law came up from SW Fla to spend a few days with me. He is the one who introduced me to the hobby about two years ago.
Tuesday we went to a Fresh Water swim area that gets lots of visitors during the winter months. We both worked the water for a while and targets (with the exception of pull tabs) were very few. So we worked the sand for a while before calling it a day. Between the two of us we dug a little over five bucks in clad. Did not get enough to pay the entrance/parking fee for the facility.
Wednesday we went to one of our Atlantic Ocean beaches. We spent between 5 and 6 hours working a very crowded beach. There must be a ton of pull tabs and bottle caps on that beach. Good targets were very scattered. It seemed that when one found something there would be another or two in close proximity.
As the tide started coming back in my Brother In Law came walking up with a grin on his face. I knew that he had found something good. He had less than a dollar in clad but had a 5.6 gram 14K Mens wedding band. My finds totaled $2.95 in clad. Didnt even find any junk jewelry.
Yesterday we were back at the same ocean beach. Paid our parking fee a few minutes after 7am and got back to the vehicle a little after 2Pm.
His finds for the day was a bit over three dollars in clad. I found an assortment of jewelry and had two pieces that I was mighty glad to see come out of the sand.
First good find was a sterling bracelet/anklet. The second good find was a Mens Wedding Band that weighs 9.2 grams and is 18k. When I found it there were a couple standing in a few feet of me so I kept my body between me and my diggings. Saw the nice yellow in the sand, Picked it up, washed the sand off and could tell that there was a hallmark but could not read it. I did not want folks to see what I had found so I just put it in my pocket. When my Brother In Law came up I showed him my junk jewelry finds and then pulled the ring out of my pocket. It was then that I could see the 18k in the ring. My heart rate went up quite a bit when I saw that as it is the first piece of 18k that I have found.
When I found the ring I was following a gentleman who was swinging a CTX-3030 with the 17" coil. I just stayed a little deeper in the wash zone so I was not detecting directly behind him.
Two days of hunting at the same beach yielding two gold rings makes for two very good hunts. Today he headed home so I will be back detecting by myself.
