Two firsts tonight

So it finally cooled off a little bit so I got out after work to the 1740 house I've been working on. It's an old farm house of course and surrounded by fields. There was nobody home. I'm digging a target and I get that sick feeling that someone is watching me. So I look over my shoulder and there's a bear walking right at me and he's no more than 15 foot away and coming right at me in the middle of the yard. Our eyes met and he's still coming I stand up to look big and he stops at 10ft no more and changes direction. I've hunted bear with a bow and got a couple but I don't need them detecting with me. On the up side I did dig a nice 1803 LC which is a first.

Coin rang in at 13/47

That will get your blood flowing pretty quick. Had the same thing happen to me in Idaho sitting on a rock slide about the size of a football field eating cookies was raining and kept hearing rocks clicking together turn around and there's a 400 hundred pound blackie 15 feet away. So I stand up and the bear sits down like a dog with his front feet on the ground and his butt on the rocks for a minute or two we just stared at each other. I didn't have a detector just a 300 magnum and I saying to myself what are you going to do ,then he gets up and just walks away. Then it gets dark and I got 3 miles to walk back to camp , bear crap all over the place going through the alders in the dark and keep looking back, what a walk out. Get back to camp and my Buddy's in the tent with a loaded gun saying he's hearing a bear by the creek and I just snickered at him. There were signs posted right in camp with black bear and grizzly pictures saying know the difference before you shoot. Trouble is now I hunt with a bow for elk and I get that feeling all the time. great find on that large cent . sube

I'm jealous!

Nice find Todd... Earlier this year I heard something behind me while detecting... Ended up being a raccoon. No where near as exciting as your uninvited hunting partner

Very nice LC Todd, not what you expected to see behind you, were you hunting around the bird feeder?
I had one walking up the other side of a creek while panning for gold in Stowe VT, only armed with a screwdriver and gold pan.

Man still waiting on a lc congrats on coin not on the bear

That's pretty scary Todd - especially since it didn't show any sign that it was scared of you - yikes!

Nice old LC - would love to find one of those someday.

He was a young bear maybe 150lbs. I think just dumb. But I didn't want to detect with him. I'm kind of picky about who I spend time with.
