Two E-Tracs. Each performs differently?

A couple months back I decided to pick up a second E-trac. I recently had to send one in for repairs and went into depression without it. Sooo with the release of the CTX why not pick one up for cheap just in case one ends up going in for repairs again.

What I have noticed however is that both, with the EXACT same setting do not sound the same and do not produce the same TID numbers. I tried this experiment with multiple coins using the X-1 probe(s) on each machine and using the same headphones, switching the headphones back and fourth. Both E-Tracs are from 2011.

Also the repair ended up being nothing. I may have gotten a bit of moisture in it. For me it would not turn on. Once minelab received it, it powered up for them no problem and has worked great for me ever since getting it back. Maybe that had something to do with it? Maybe it's the probe...? But that wouldn't explain the different TIDs would it?..hummm. Maybe it is the probe? The probe would send different numbers to the control box right and sounds?

I am also not sure where they were assembled. Ireland or Malaysia. Maybe that makes a difference?

Thoughts?

I know you said (same settings) what about the noise cancel channel? Make sure that they are the same.

Take the probe off and noise cancel ..................checking they are same noise cancel settings

That said Sir..I have a current Etrac that is so much different from a prior you would think their different brands,, The current is deeper, more stable and a pleasure to use.

The prior was terrible...........

I too seen the same thing. The prior was still a good machine but very irratic in certain areas, my new one in the exact same places is always smooth and quiet.

I have seen many of the same machnes side by side, and seldom will each show the same thing on the same target (they should be close though)...It is just the laws of electronics...No 2 units are identical.

HH,
Thanks everyone. I had no idea that each machine would perform differently. I would have guessed exact models would perform identically because of the electronics not in spite of the electronics

Electronics have tolerances...With Metal detectors, I would think that the parts used would be of the +/- 5% or better variety, but they are gonna be different.
If you get wildly varying results form 2 like machines with identical settings, then something is up with something...
