Two Deep Nickels with MX5

RLOH

Well-known member
I am in the process of moving and wouldn't you know it, the weather here in northeast Ohio got really nice. In between moving trips, I grabbed my MX5 and headed for my favorite park. I did not expect much, but was only going to enjoy the 65 degree weather. Second target was a scrambled 188? V nickel from 8 to 9 inches. Numbers were jumping from 20 to 74, but audio was consistantly giving a "high tone"? Was not surprised to see a toasted coin. This seems to happen alot with deep nickels in this park. Same thing happened with Coinstrike, Omega, and Xterra. Thankfully, I have learned to dig these deep, jumpy signals. Thirty feet away a like signal appeared and this time it was a buffalo from about 8 inchs deep. I have not cleaned it yet, but I think there is a date. For the record, I feel very confident that the MX5 will not miss any targets in the first 8 inches of my ground. It is a really good feeling to have gained that confidence in a detector.

Hi RL

...Old nickels can sure come out of the ground looking grungy, I like to find them, just wish they came out as nice as the war nickels.
I've been out with my MX5 lately, always have a fun time with it, got me a grungy old dateless Buffalo at about 3 inches..... lol

Nice!

These newer White's models are deep on nickels, I'm seeing that myself.

Won't be long a shield nickel will surface for you.

Congrats!
Paul
