Two days, two Large Cents

Well I finally got out to start the season. I went back to an area on Sunday that I worked alot last year. Many acres of old farmland. I just got the 12" x 15" and wanted to hit the same area for awhile to see if I missed anything with the stock coil. Nothing found on that property. Went up the road to another field that I worked a little last fall. Sunday, I got about 4 good signals in 2 hours. One toasted no date large cent, (it is slightly smaller than any typical largie that I have found). First one for the season. A 1982 dime, one nail, and some scrap metal.
Today I went back to that same field to work some more of it. I had 3 good signals in 2 hours today and I found my second large cent for the year. Best I can tell it is an 1804 Draped Bust. I have looked at this coin for a while to see the date. The only number I can make out is the 4 at the end. If it is the 1804 there were only 96,500 made. This coin came in an awesome 12-45 at 3". I thought for sure silver dime. Dug down and there is that beautiful green and large rim. That made my day, two LC's in two days. You know, I think while I am MD'ing these fields and not getting many signals that if I would have more fun finding alot of wheats, etc., nope. I love the few and far between signals that usually turn out to be something good. So here are the pictures, not great detail on them but when you pull out the 200 year old coins that makes it all worth it. HH

Very nice. Any day with LCs is a good day

Nice historical peices you've found there!

So you just walk the fields just because theyre old and open? Or is there a reason why you chose the areas you searched. I have access to tons of abandoned farms, some are fields, some have reverted to woods. Most of the old farmhouses are now in subdivisions, unfortunately. Is this the type of place that these coins can be found? Im also not the type that likes a high coin count if it includes clad. Im after history.

These fields have been worked for 200 years, my thinking is that the farmers and their children have lost stuff over the years. There is little trash, and even the trash that is there has some history to it. I know if I get a coin signal it is down deep and old most of the time. I frequently find colonial buttons, and other relics that must have a story. I am also not there for coin count and love bringing to the surface the treasures lost generations ago, plus I love the Large Cents and I know that the likelyhood of finding them in the old fields is high.

thank you for the quick come-back. ive only been using the e-trac for two weeks, but im impressed with what it can do. i know for sure that the e-trac would up my odds compared to my old detector.

good luck to you out there, i hope you find more good stuff.

Very nice. Thanks for the great story and the awesome pictures. Congratulations on the finds.

Great job finding the LC's Mick !!!

Sweet! Love the early largies. I've found about 10 large cents so far, but I am still waiting to find my first draped bust...
