This is a first for me a 1901 barber half this is the same field i searched last night pulling up deep iron nails and everything else, but i learned if hunting with the SEF coil from the lower rod connection to the toe is the sweet area of the coil, run the threshold about 1:00 o'clock position wind up the sens and the disc worked alot better more like it should so now everything is good, and thanks again to TVR, sorry for the crappy pics blasted camera is about to go out the door

amcjavelin, nice find ! I have found a few barber half dollars over the years and they sure are fun to find. How much more depth is the new coil giving you over the stock coil?

its kinda hard to say but fully super tuned you can easily dig rusty nails at 12 to 13" easily, but when i got the signal i knew it was good very smooth from all angles, i just wasn't expecting that.

Great find! Your post is proof of how valuable it is to join a forum like ours. The great wealth of knowledge here is amazing and the willingness of the more experienced MD'ers to share is a beautiful thing!!

amcjavelin,
Congrats on a terrific find!

As pastorals (Alan) says, it is the wealth of the knowledge on the forums! After digging a lot of big iron and learning from the forum's wealth of knowledge, I turned the threshold down and got much more successful as a percentage of good finds. Just happened to be reading your post at the right time and was able to share the lessons previously learned here that I then field tested in my conditions.

Pass the knowledge on! And when ever your experience is different than others, share that too. Different ground conditions are frequently handled differently with different detectors and coils.

Your reporting on the SEF coil has me thinking about picking one up.
Cheers,
tvr
