TV shows that were changed at the last moment ...

... and became hugely popular. Here are some that come to mind.

One of the most famous is The Lone Ranger. Below is the original cast and the shows first intended name.

Most of you are too young to remember this show, Gene Autry, the singing cowboy. Here is the original star, Dave the singing cowboy and plumber that was replaced by Gene.

Many of you remember the Andy Griffith Show. The character who first played Barney Fife was not Don Knots, it was Barney James Fife. Barney James got canned because he was WAY too goofy.

How many of you remember The Mickey Mouse Club? The most famous Mousketeer was Annette. The original "Annette" was a gal named Rosie. She was fired for always causing consternation among the other Mouseketeers and for saying bad things about Donald Duck. Even today the same gal still has issues with a man named Donald.

The Andy Griffith show (originally to be called "Andy Gaf in da Ghetto" was not popular until the original guitar strumming, "Andy Gaf" was replaced by Andy Griffith.

Isn't it great that the producers of all those early shows were able to make changes that assured the shows success.
