I am having a great time at the campground, meet allot of great people. The beach here was replenished last year and the waves are killer right now. Got in the water last night around 10:00 pm , but wasn't worth the bruises from the scoop banging against my legs. I did get an old shell casing, but I know nothing about them. Just one other local with detector that I have seen. I am going up to Crescent Beach and hunt up to Siesta Beach tomorrow, In the water if it beats me up or not. Headed home Thur. can heal up then. Winds have been around 20 mph and will last Thur the weekend. Here are a few pics. I took.

GH not sure what that ring is, when I get home I will test it. It is not a key ring, and doesn't look like a ring unless it was mangled before I found it. It is gun metal grey in color, and very hard. I'll know later and let you know. HH

Hey Papa! Nice to see you in my neck of the woods. :clapping: The shell you found is indeed a WWII issue 50. cal machine gun bullet casing (most likely used in one of the many planes that used the waters off of Longboat Key as an aerial shooting range back in the war) The particular shell you have found is a Des Moines 43 (meaning made in Des Moines in 1943). Here is the link to the head stamp codes and a little history(thanks again Scuba!!). http://www.totse.com/en/bad_ideas/guns_and_weapons/headstmp.html And yeah I'm with Gulf Hunter...that looks like a tarnished silver ring! Be sure to try the village entrance side of Siesta I think that area will produce something for ya!! Also while I'm talking up siesta.... back in the re nourishment days (when they were pumping sand onto the beach) I have heard tale that someone found 3 pieces of Spanish gold on the beach afterward right around where you are at! I guess there must have been a wreck just offshore and the dredger picked up the gold with the sand and shot it onto the beach. Something to think about I guess while your looking. Have fun and be careful!!

Ok, GH here goes, I haven't a clue what it is . It held silver acid for 30 seconds and turned a brownish blue color. which would indicate nickel. and 10k acid for about 10 seconds. I polished the coating off a place and it tested as copper but very hard. So I am guessing nickel plated copper. It is a solid ring, not like a keyring, but it was in that twisted shape when I found it. Here are some pics. Beats me what it is, but glad you asked again it was in with some can slaw in the trash, liked to never found it. Thanks. Open for all ideals for what it could be or could have been. HH
