turning it on

is it normal when the machine is on my kitchen table to turn it on and it sounds like a short-wave radio, and the numbers jumping all around? is this how it starts off and then after my adjustments it calms down?

these machines are extremely sensitive ,i have not yet heard of anyone being able to use one indoors on either side of the atlantic ,so yes yours is normal just try it outdoors away from electric cables preferably

You may have a loose coil wire in the connection to the processor/display housing or you are indeed too close to a power source. I can turn mine on inside with no problems if it off the floor and away from the outlets and other power sources.
coenwolf is 100% correct regarding the sensitivity and EMI - part of the price you pay for such a hot machine.
