Turn Coil 180 deg.

Just wondering if anyone hunts with the coil turned 180 deg.? I just spun the shaft 1/2 turn.

I like the balance a little better ....it seems to reduce the weight a wee bit.

Does it make any difference with the operation of the detector?

I saw a lady in the park one day detecting that way. She said "There's something wrong with my detector. It beeps for no reason!!" Well, sez I, you got the coil turned around bassackwards and you're picking up your coil wire!! Coils detect up as well as down!! We turned it around, wrapped the coil wire tight and cured her problem. But if it works for you and you like it, go ahead!!

Wouldnt reccomend it, maybe that SUN RAY PROBE is a little heavy, I usually lighten up the weight by going up a notch to make shaft shorter during a long hunt.

Might also give ya' fits if you wear steel-toed shoes.:detecting: I wear them all the time, and have to be careful or i'll "bong" my shoe.:surprised:

Well I've been MD'ing for a few hunts with the coil spun around as in the pic, and I can say I don't think it makes any difference as far as the operation of the detector is concerned. It is about 3-4 inches closer and as Mike stated if you are wearing steel toed shoes it may be an issue. I'm gonna try shorting the shaft 1 notch as well, though I'm 6 ft. tall and I think it'll be too short for me.

With some detectors or some coils it might make a difference but this coil is essentially symmetrical and the only difference seems to be a small difference in the overall weight because it isn't extended quite so far.

If anyone else is using the GTI 2500 with the standard 9.5" coil I'd say give it a try....you may be pleasantly surprised
