Has anyone tried using the Australian made Turbo Gold Pan what are your thoughts are they good on fine gold? How good are they on clay soil types. thinking about buying one what are your views. thanks Neilo

I read the reviews on the turbo gold pan on another prospector's forum by Randy C-17A who is a very experienced prospector and whom I am familiar with and he wasn't impressed with the Turbo pan's ability to trap fine gold. He tried it out both in Colo. and Cal. and had the same results both times. He said it did okay on larger gold, but poorly on fine gold like is mostly found in the lower 48's. I watched several videos on using the Turbo pan before reading Randy's review and that was the exact same conclusion I came to after watching the videos, it did okay on picker size gold, but had problems with fine gold.

At least there are lots of folks trying to build a better mousetrap/gold pan out there these days. I have lost count how many new types of pans have hit the market in the last 5 years?
I know I have Garrett pans ,Keene pans, Hex pan, Pyramid pro pan, etc, etc...would be kinda nice if you could pan down to the heavies and then run the remaining material thru a Spiral wheel or Blue Bowl? Heck, I guess you can come to think of it? Some of my friends can clean up their gold right nice and quick with just a garrett pan but i can't seem to master their tricks, especially the tapping one side of the pan trick to get the gold to concentrate away from the black sands?

I feel the Turbo Pan is way over thought. Also, it has all the necessary faults for losing fine gold. For me, the more simple the better. I've been panning, sluicing and dredging for 27 years and when I watched a YouTube video about the Turbo I right away knew it's weakness. "It will lose fine gold". I have recently taken another " new concept" pan very seriously. That would be the Pyramid Pro Pan! I now use the Pyramid for a production pan and my loved and trusted 14 inch Garrett "Gravity Trap Pan" has turned into my finish pan. When I first received my Pyramid I had my doubts about it's abilities to capture the finer gold but found myself very surprised when gold fineR then I have ever seen started showing up in my cons. I love the increased production I get with the Pyramid. Now that I have gained trust and experience with it I can process a 5 gal. bucket of classified ( 1/2 inch) material in 15 minutes without fear of losing visual gold. After the initial reduction with the Pyramid I use the Garrett to quickly remove excess blonds and then put cons into a safe place. I'm talking gold I am barely able to see is showing up for the first time. Not that this fine gold amounts to a whole lot but this gives me confidence that I won't be losing the more course gold and increases my poke by about 5 fold because of the increased production. Determining if a placer (big or small) will pay, yards per hours is the formula that is used. With the Pyramid I have successfully increased my production in that direction. Of course, I'm talking a number 2 shovel a 1/2 inch screen and a 5 gal bucket plus the Pyramid Pro Pan. I bring my cons home and run them thru a micro sluice recovery system at my leisure. This saves me time at the dig but I always do a visual from every pan while at the dig just to see. The Pyramid Pro Pan - rugged, guarantied for life, fast and dependable. Try one and you won't regret it. Find them at Fossicker's. com
