Tungsten Rings

Hi Steve,
I just took a tungsten ring I found in the water last year and ran it under my MXT. It came up around 47 on the VDI #'s(button/screw cap)

Hi Joe,

Thanks. I was trying to find a lost tungsten ring for a guy. He seemed to be sure of the area, but I came up dry. After the fact I started wondering if I had tuned it out. I was around a house so I dialed in just enough disc to knock out the ferrous trash. It occured to me later that I have no idea how tungsten or tungsten carbide read. Seemed like they should go non-ferrous but I was worried. Sounds like I was ok.

he thought he lost it when he took his gloves off after running his car into a ditch after an ice storm. I looked and looked, but on an off chance, I told him to check his car, and lo and behold, it was under his seat. I did a quick airtest, and it read as a square tab on my CZ-5.

Funny you should ask. I just returned from Bahamas 2 weeks ago and my first hour in the wet sand with Excal 1000 on decrimination 2 setting and hit the mother load of a Trew Tungsten Carbide ring. Big Fatty one with the 22KT gold center and the beveled edge. It sounded exactly like a high pitched heavy gold band. No low tone at all. Obviously the ring is heavy heavy and pretty thick. It is the one that retails for $1050. But none the less, it sounded high pitched and equivalent to a heavy thick gold band or class ring. Hope this helps.
