TTF question

Still waiting on a thaw here in Ohio. I understand the whole concept of TTF but I'm wondering if this works better with the stock pro coil or a smaller coil such as the 6X8 sef?

Goes4ever is the man when it comes to TTF. He has posted lots on here and has his own website. Tells you how to set it up. Every thing you want to know about TTF.

Read my most recent post and do a google or yahoo search on TTF

I did read your post and nowhere does it say anything about what size coil to use for best performance using TTF.

OK Ill tell you what I have read from this Forum. Your stock coil is a SUPER GOOD SENSITIVE coil, do not dismiss it, TTF will work great with it.
Goes is the master at the TTF and you may want to contact him direct through the member messaging.

IF you are thinking that you need more separation because of the trash then a smaller coil may help and you can read Bryce's take on the coils he has run himself on the explorer forum, as any coil you call BEST for the TTF will be BEST for any set up on the E trac.

Is there a best?... not sure if you will ever get that answer. Why not?...This Forum Rocks and has lots of really good Detectorists but they hunt in differing areas with differing soils, minerals ect. In addition not everyone has access to all the good coils to tell you by experience and test methods. Because of that there are some OPINIONS that get supported by the fact that they SPENT alot of cash on one product that they use because of the fact that they have had good success with it, otherwise we would all own the same equipment.

I know I'm not answering your question, There are some really good coils I just don't see any real consensus by forum members on the hundreds of posts Ive read about it.

Ok normally you gonna be using two tone ferrous because the iron hits OUTNUMBER the conductive signals. In this case if you use a smaller coil combined with TTF you have a killer combo where you can just pluck the goodies from the iron, easier than taking candy from a baby.

Where in ohio are u again? Because I was out digging today for several hours and the ground was super soft here in NW ohio.

I still think it would be best for all of us who use TTF if one of the coil manufacturers would make a 3" coil. Our finds would increase still. But they won't listen!

I am in Mt. Blanchard due east of you right off Rt. 30. Its strange because I was out Friday and had to give up because the ground was frozen here.

3" coil??? no way! you couldn't pay me to use something that little

A 3" coil would be like trying to erase a chalkboard with a pencil eraser!

I like my 6x8 SEF and 6" Excellerator (I don't use the 6" much becasue it is so small). Both work great in TTF.

We actually hunted in the snow Saturday (Charlotte, NC) and it was very sloppy.

I swap back and forth between conductive and TTF depending on trash concentration and use TTF when I have a questionable conductive target to ensure I am not getting halo effect from iron.

I am so jealous.I am not far from you in western NY and still have snow on the ground

I guess none of you not wanting to see a 3" coil are not used to hunting in extreme trashy areas with multi signals under the coil. Mainly decomposing zinc jar lids.

I am used to hunting sites where houses are tore down, it don't get trashier than that!!!! But seriously?? A 3" coil would be insane. I cannot even fathom using something so small. You might as well tape a pinpointer to a stick and detect with that

One of my hunting buddies, silveandgold, and I tried using TTF this last weekend at the city park. I've tried it many times and just never saw any improvement in my finds. EVERY target we recovered that gave a mid-tone tuned out to be rusted iron. Bolts to be precise. All of these were a good 10-12" deep and gave a little iron grunt along with the mid-tone. I know the iron grunt indicated chances were it was iron, but any time I've ever got a clean mid-tone and tested it in normal mode it sounded better in normal mode than TTF. I keep trying but have yet to find where I benefited from TTF. The iron in our city park is just so deep it falsies no matter what mode I use.

Very rarely would I use TTF in a park, there is generally so much high conductive trash in many parks. It really shines where there is a lot of iron as around old houses and fields where house once stood.

Seriously, you're getting mid tones in TTF? All I get are high tones and grunts, I never dig the grunts. Bell-two, if you come to some of our pull tab city, parks here in Michigan, you would be using 5" coil and TTF. Although I have used 4 tone on occasion (good for multiple bad targets) it works very well (4 tones) I look at cursor placement when in doubt in TTF......nge
