TTF is off the Hook....I'm a believer!!!!!:detecting:

Hunted with a good friend yesterday at an old school. We have always had at least one good find in the past, but yesterday the oldies were popping up like we hadn't ever hunted it. I had my etrac and when I started I was in stock coin mode. I was iron nulling quite a bit, so I decided to give TTF a shot. As soon as I did I got a blaring 12-15 solid repeatable. Dug it and out popped my first 1937 Buffalo Nickel!

Continued the hunt and about 30 minutes later I got another solid repeatable among iron. I could tell there was a good target in there because of the high tone and the repeatable but it was deep, meter was maxed at the bottom of the scale and I decided why not....and started diggin. By the time I got to about 8 inches I had already pulled out 3 small rusty nails and was starting to lose hope ....kept scanning the hole and target was still there, so I thought maybe my pinpoint was off....kept on diggin.

I got down to 11 inches and was about to say the heck with it...I've been fooled. My buddy was tellin me it was just an iron falsing and I didn't believe it...cleaned all the dirt out of the hole...scanned the pile...and still nothing. he scanned the pile...nothing...he scanned the hole....said he was just getting iron.

Took the propointer in the bottom of the hole and started sweeping....BAM!!!!!! It sounded off loud and clear and my heart jumped....he said laughingly...woo hoo...another nail. I grabbed the spot where the pinpointer said it was and lifted the loose dirt out of the hole. Pinpointer waved over my hand and the target was in there. I saw the pretty green color of copper oxidization and squeezed the little ball of dirt and out popped a wheatie...neither of us could believe it. It was pretty rough shape but after a light cleanup at home it turned out to be a 1909 Wheatie...but not a VDB.

Since getting my etrac this year, this is my deepest coin I have ever dug...and I knew it was there. I think the etrac is without question...the most awesome detector out there. TTF is the way to go in the iron. I was skeptical, but now I KNOW...that it works. I will post pictures tonight.

I started using TTF this year and I have been finding that I use it more than conductive now. I run two programs; one is just a wide open screen, but if the iron is so bad that it becomes sensory overload, I change to a screen where I have 0 to 7 blocked out on the conductive, and up to 35 on the ferrous and it quiets down considerably.

Good work! I love the buffalo nickels. My favorite coin of all. TTF got me my first silver a few months ago. It's not always the best mode, but it is a lot of times.

I hunt TTF whenever I get into the iron. It is amazing what you can see.

The ETrac usually doesn't lie, if it says there is a coin in the hole, it is there.

G4E, I have actually learned the tone for nickels, which is different from aluminum, when hunting conductive and now they shout at me. It took me a while to connect them, but now nickels are a piece of cake in conductive.

Enjoy your ETrac, I certainly enjoy mine!

Very cool. I like to use TTF when I am frustrated. I've been TTFn a lot lately. ha ha ha - It's true nickels do jump out of the ground for sure and there is usually something in the hole with the target like nails. I haven't found silver in TTF but have found wheats and nickels and clad.

Congrats on Buffalo...I love finding those!! I have 3 this year.

I am looking foward to trying TTF soon. But at the moment I am concentrating on low disc, high sens conductive audio, and it is working well.

Found an Indian Head at about 8-9" with that mode it was dead center between two big rusty nails. In Conductive it only nulled.
