Trying Too Decide on Relic Machine

TimC.

New member
Hey guys, I've been lurking for quite a spell and am active other places and now this one too! I'm looking for a new relic machine after Christmas and was wondering if any one has had any experience in comparing the Troy X5, Fisher F75, Tejon and the Nautilus DCM IIB & IIba. I feel I that any of these machines would probably be a good choice, but I would like the best choice for my area which is North /Central Alabama with Medium to heavy mineralization containing red clay and iron in some areas. Thanks for any help. Tim

Check with David Keith, his banner is at the top of this forum(615-860-4333). A more trustworthy and helpful individual you will never meet. Call him and tell him what you will use it for and he will tell you which one you need. You cant go wrong with Mr. Keith...d2

That's a good idea, he knows relics, myself i tried several and am quite happy now with a Ground Hawk, it is just a RELIC machine, not a compromise, balances good, and works nice, lite in weight, 5 yr warranty, for me i like it better than most i have tried, and there several out there, but David will set you straight, and so will some of the other sponsors,, Ron in Shelbyville, Gosh i can't think offhand all of the good guys, Richard= shucks just get ahold of a relic hunting dealer, one that actually hunts . And is not just a salesman :detecting:

Spoke with David yesterday on the phone and never really could get a straight answer, I guess because there is not one! Every machine has it's own pluses and minuses, but I did get the distinct impression that he favored the Tejon because of the same reasons I do, because it's a Tesoro, weight, depth and above all warranty. This was my initial opinion as well and just wanted to confirm.
Thanks David!

He is great about helping you with what you need instead of what you want. I have bought 4 or 5 detectors from him
and woudnt shop or call anyone else with questions. You cant go wrong with the Tejon or David and he wouldnt steer you wrong either...d2

I have a few machines that I could use for relic, but my Tejon is my first grab. I have an F-75 which I haven't used yet for relic but I'll have to give it a shot. Some say it's good for relic, since it goes deep for coin, I have no doubt it would do fine. It will be difficult for me because the Tejon is what I'm used to. In trashy areas, the 5.75 coil has done me well. Fresh set of batteries, quality headphones, some drinks and digging tools are important since I had the Tejon really put me to work at times.
There are others out there, but for me, it's Tejon for now - and it's not giving me any reason to replace it with something else.

I use a Vaquero and it loves brass! I have been shocked how deep I have dug 22 shells and I have dug shot gun shell at about 12 inches. I am in ND so no CW stuff here but I think this is the shot gun shell capital of the world. As as coin deepth I have dug a silver dime at about 7 and an IH at about 8 inches. I alway come back with some thing but finding good hunting spots around can be hard to do. My best day was 7 silver dimes ,a gold ring ,two tokens ,7nickles,some wheats and a bunch of house hold type relics but that was a virgin yard and the house is about 105 years old. Those places are hard to come by here. I have been told the Tejon is just a bit of a deeper machine but the Vaquero will do better in bad soil. The Tejon is the next one on my wish list. I have also read that the F75 is a great relic machine but the price tag deters me for now.
