Trying to get used to the F-75

I'm new to the F-75 and only have about 8 hours use on it. I have several questions.
1. I was hunting a well hunted civil war camp and on a number of occasions, the display would show #69 [which is usually a bullet] but there was no sound. Not getting an audio hit, i passed these signals by [i did find a few bullets with an audio hit as well as a display hit of #69]. should I have dug these visual signals ?

2.The next day I visited the Brandy Station area of Virginia and had all sorts of trouble finding settings to calm the detector down [I finally gave up and swithched to my cz 3-d]. Can anyone who has been in similar "hot ground" suggest some settings that I might try ?

Thanks for your patience with my limited experience with the detector.

1. Which mode ? DE, JE, BC or PF
2. Disc setting ?
3. GB number while Fastgrab ?
4. Fe3 O4 read out ?

in any mode other than all metal, I know what you were hearing. :) I was just over that way recently and used the 75 there for 3 days. There were areas that you could pull off hunting with the disc mode but it was just sooooo much nicer in all metal because of the excellent audio and ID. In all metal, the settings were very forgiving..... in disc, it was extremely tough to find a way to run it very stable.

I have been to a few places in IL from Canton, Springfield, Mattoon,Decatur and Peoria and have problems with the F75 to calm down. I have tryied settings of all kinds with no luck. I hope its just a small problem that Fisher can fix. The last time out I ran the sens at 20, GBed at 47 in one spot and in the 60s at another, did a reset and still no luck. Any help would be great.

Maybe you have a bad coil. I had a coil go on a T2 and it made the machine behave erratically.

Thats the worst ground I have ever detected in. It's red iron oxide rich clay that play havoc on most detectors....
So, I would suggest shying away from the Brandy clay until you are more comfortable. As a newer user myself, I had problems in Brandy @ DIV in disc mode. Brad's right, try all metal. I ran all metal & still dealt with some chatter. I would turn sensitivity down in Brandy too...I tried pumping it up into the 80's but that was way too much & promoted falsing.
I would pick a "kinder" soil like say in Stafford county till you learn it better. Like any new unit, it will take some time to become comfortable.....but for relics all metal is the way to go. Seeing a number on the screen & no signal could mean it was a super deep bullet out of signal range. Only way to know for sure is dig one next time...you might be surprised. Then if it's nothing you'll know not to dig those in the future.
Good luck,
Bill

In disc mode I can't seem to get any coins. The beeps are short and confusing. Can't seem to get a lock. ID changes after I dig it up. All metal seems to work well.

I've never hunted that area, but it is well known from the forums as possibly one of the hardest places to use disc mode anywhere.

As for the display of "69" with no audio, I haven't ever had a target that didn't give a audio response.. (however, that's in my tamer soils) If you can get a pinpoint on them, I'd dig 'em just to find out. The audio and display modes are separate, so theoretically it's possible that one is giving you information where the other is not.

On item #2, did you get the "calm down" problems only while the coil was moving, or was it also happening when still or lifted away from the ground?

Mine behaves the same way, but if I lower discrim to 15, put the sens at 50 or less, and use delta pitch, it calms down and the signals are more like tones than scratchy static. Mine GB's at 66 with ferric ~.1

LMK if this helps settle yours down.

I noticed when I turned the sensitivity below 30 on my F75 the detector became More Unstable when doing a few indoor test.
