Trying to discriminate coins out with an Excal II

Hello, all, I just got through getting my new Excal II wet for the first time at a freshwater swimming hole and am very pleased with it. I was picking up pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, every few feet. I did get one ring (looks like an old class ring, but not sure what it's made of. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy picking up that money to help pay for my gas to get there, but I was trying to discriminate the coins out cause I was spending so much time digging them up and wanted to try for another ring or two. Well I set the discrimination to max and was still picking up coins. Just wanted to know if that's how the excal is suppose to work, thanks for any replies.

dis out coins and you will disc out rings! run 0 disc and dig by the tones.get used to the tone of Gold and pass over the other tones.just rember you will loose silver rings if you only dig Gold tone.with my Excal,GT and CZ20 i only dig the gold tone, that allowes me to cover more beach.

even at it's highest discrimination you can not reject coins with an Excalibur. As other have said....set your Discrimination to "0" as the Excal will still reject iron even at the zero discrimination setting. Dig all targets and listen to thier tones. In time you will be able to tell the difference between most coins and gold. The majority of coins and silver rings are going to give a higher tone. Nickels and most gold rings will give a low tone. Once you start getting used to the tones this will make more sense.
