Trying multiple pic post

Think I got it figured out. Went back briefly yesterday to the site where I hunted at on Saturday. Didn't stay long, and no amazing finds were made, but I found a few things. First pic shows the coins and buttons - an undated LC, an 1859 IH, what may be a cut piece of spanish silver, and a couple tombacs.

Here's a close-up of the IH, but the date doesn't show up very well.

Here's some misc lead, including a 3-ringer, a small caliber musketball, a hem weight, and a couple fishing weights(?).

Some of the misc stuff included part of an old silver spoon, old lock, and this cool little watch pendant. The inside is fogged up, but in the close-up I think you can see the roman numerals and the hands.

Maybe better luck next time.

See you got the multi pic figured out. One day I'll sit down and figure it out too. Just never seem to have the time. Great relics. Try some clear finger nail polish on the front of the watch. You'll see the face a little better. Hope to get together over the holidays. HH

Nice digs, Bill.
If you didn't know, that's a Braided Hair Large Cent there, 1839 to 1857. Here's a link below to Large Cent identification. Got me a Matron Head a few weeks back...at least as rough as yours. Our ground isn't too kind to copper, is it? I've found 3 Large Cents and they ALL look like these. <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry">
Here's what mine looked like...and a REALLY rough Injun too. (I posted this on the CZ Classroom forum) HH!

Thanks Mike - nice link. Nearly all my LCs that have been found in cultivated fields are like that or worse. But there have been a few exceptions, including a beautiful 1798 that I found last year. Old coppers found in yards tend to be in much better shape. However, I'm more interested in colonial silver, which almost always looks great coming out of the ground. HH .... Bill

Yeah, that silver stays in great shape. And I've found plenty of it too, but no Colonial silver YET. I think the oldest one I have is this one, dug in Suffolk Virginia a couple of years ago.

I've been pretty lucky with colonial silver. Guess I have around 35-40 pieces, mostly found over in the Gloucester/Mathews area, plus a little here on the peninsula. My oldest dated coin is a 1605 sixpence, or at least the better part of one as you can see from the pic. Doubt I can do any better than that age-wise, although I've heard of a couple guys finding silver from the late 1500s around here. There are lots of colonial homesites in the Suffolk area, so you should have luck soon. HH to you .... Bill
