went to a private camp, Monday, where I have permission. Have found mercs and Rosies and occasional silver Washingtons. One Walker.
Carried the MX Sport with 5.5x10 DD coil. Ran it in C&J trying for a silver dime.
Had a good clean signal and an 84-85 TID. The detector indicated the target was a a "half dollar." It was in the side of the hole and I scratched it. (1st photo)
Did not get another dig-me signal in the immediate area of the 1st target so I moved on to gridding the site I was hunting. About 20 minutes laters I was back near the first hole and did get another good signal. (Maybe it was a different angle of attack than I had used previously). The MX Sport once again indicated "half dollar." Yeah, right, I thought. Wouldn't that be something. The something turned out to be this (2nd photo):
I guess in my excitement I only thought about rechecking the hole because it was later that I rescanned the 2nd hole (and the 1st one numerous times <g>) and got another signal. That's when I dug the quarter (photos 3 and 4).
You can see by the position of the two leaves in photo 5 how close the 3 coins were to each other.
Oh, I went back to the camp Tuesday and did find that silver dime I was trying for (photo 6). Ugliest merc I've ever dug and that was before I smacked it with my shovel (ouch).
