Want an eye-opener? Try this experiment.... Test your CTX on large silver objects like halves and dollars in all 4 target separation modes. Notice the changes. Are you blocking any big coins along that 01 - 03 FE line? But thats not the scary part. Stack 3 or 4 of the coins and wave them past the coil. What kind of signal are you getting? What does your display look like? Would you dig a target like that?

It gets all kinds of funny,I checked this out before. I’ll let others do their own checking so they know for sure...but if you think there’s a chance of multiple big silvers together in a site, you’d better run the test and see what it does. It ain’t good.

Yeah, if you think there might be a cache, its important to see this yourself. More applicable would be if you had a pocket-spill or dropped coin purse. I don't think think theres a work around for the CTX. I tried it in all the modes.

The only target mode I do not run is Ferrous. I chase the low fe numbers here in my ground because I've dug deep silver dimes and wheaties at 1-37 1-39 dug a barber half at 3-44 bounced up to 5. I keep the 1 line open up to 48, I block 49 and 50.

yea if you have been crossing out the 01/fe line above 25 or so I can't imagine how many people have walked right past half dollars or dollars and never heard a peep. I was warning somebody wanting to know how to descrim out corona caps the other day not to go to high with the CO..

Being I have never seen a cash of dollars it doesn't worry me as much but it would be a heart breaker if your buddy behind you with his ace 250 found what you missed :)

The stack of coins I just tested on my Equinox and Deus as well. One coin perfect, Stack nothing. Glad it just isn't the CTX :)

good sluething.... I remembered making this thread but I didn't remember when it was. Thats interesting this problem affects other detectors as well.

I found a walker halve and just remember nice silver numbers like 12-46, or 47 but remember high manual sensitivity will affect your numbers especially ferrous numbers, when I use manual in 28 or so I find to rely on co numbers only.

I'm confused by this. Seems in the last month this silver coin stack thing has hit big. Why did it just come out now? Does it really seem all CTX's have an issue or just some?
I hunt local SoCal beaches and don't find silver. I don't have any except some dimes I got at the Minelabbing Day in Santa Barbara years back (used a Tejon). I am though very happy with the depth my CTX has with the standard coil with typical coins. I'm digging all of them over 15" at times.
I'd like to see the problem and try my various detectors. What is the cheapest way to get representative silver targets?
Will old sterling silver tableware show the problem? How much would a coin shop set me back?

The 'silver coin stack thing' didn't just come out now...here's a link from a couple of years ago:

https://www.findmall.com/read.php?86,2278364,page=2

...and it's not just CTX's.

Read the whole thread, but especially scroll down to where I tested several machines with a silver dollar stack.
:)

Edit:
I've always said...if you want to find big silver, test with big silver...it can be tricky.
