Trx broken before 1st hunt

Getting ready for my 1st try with my new Trx I received yesterday, I was having issues getting it set but finally got it working at 3.5-4" on a target. I was bringing my Trx, a phone, and 2 waters to the car and my phone rings. I grab my phone out of my pocket and my Trx falls out of the sheath about 2 feet to the ground and it beeps. Well then I try to reset it and can't get it to work, so I call White's for help when I get to the field and explain what's going on. I try to reset it out there but when I bring a target close to the pinpointer it starts sounding off and doesn't stop, so I turn it off and try it again. The next time I turn it on, I turn it over, (speaker down) then it starts sounding off and doesn't stop until I turn it speaker side up. After trying different things with White's on the phone, they decide that it's defective and tell me to send it back to White's or see if a local dealer would replace it. White's says they are out of stock and on back order. Well 1st I call a local dealer to see if they can replace it, they call the California regional guy which calls me. Anyway, he told me that I didn't buy it in his region so he wouldn't have one of his dealers replace it. He tells me just to return it to get my money back. Well all I wanted to do was use this pinpointer that I was so looking forward to using. Bottom line, I am out of luck until White's gets more of these in. It was a very frustrating day since I was out MDing. But at least I had my other brand pinpointer with me which has never failed me the last 3 years or so even though I had accidently dropped it several times. I heard the local dealer has had 3 defective units already sent back to Whites. I sure hope they get the bugs worked out as I was so looking forward to the depth of this unit. White's was very nice on the phone though.
 
I do not think they are going to take the abuse that the other model does......Housing seems a little thin.
 
That isn't good. I am sure White's will eventually gets things working correctly but don't they field test stuff? Making sure electronics can handle some rough and tumble shouldn't be any problem whatsoever. We don't detect on pillows.
 
The housing, I think they make to be replaceable. Although the housing did not break, I heard it come on and after that it didn't work any longer.
 
The thinner case won't be a problem for the electronics. The other pinpointer doesn't isolate the electronics any better. If you check the other defective TRX were not caused by dropping. I have already dropped mine.

The thin housing is changed out in two minutes, easy, and not hurting the electronics. That will be the fix, as stated by Whites, if you wear through the case.

Besides it is cool that it floats.
The TX has no waterproof claim but I took my electronics out and put the empty case under water. I left mine underwater for an hour with no water intrusion. :clapping:

If your waiting on one from the factory it will be about a week to ten days before they catch up. I've been waiting ten days from local dealer so I called the plant and that is what they told me today.

Whites makes the most rugged detectors out there. Why do they make a pinpointer that can't take the same abuse?
 
Read the other posts. Just one broke because it was dropped doesn't mean others will. Why make a statement like you did because of one failure. We know who's glass is half empty. JMHO :stars:
 
White's will definitely take care of it as usual. It just sucks that I never got to use it. Also, that it may be awhile before getting a new one back since they were on backorder.
 
Well, I finally got my TRX in, actually I got 2 by accident. They came a day apart. So I called White's ask Mary if it was sent by accident and it was so she is sending me a hat and a return label to send the extra one back. Hopefully, I won't have any more problems.
