True Story of a bad hole filler

I went hunting with my neighbor today. We had been out once or twice before to a pretty much open field on public property. He would put about 4/5 of the dirt back in holes on average then. I told him politely to try to get more in the hole as someone can trip or the like. Get this, as a gift I gave him a nice digging knife and folding shovel that I were no longer using, as well as a decent pinpointer that came with a kellyco purchased detector. When we had gone out all he had was his bike, detector and gardening trowel (a terrible one) - no head phones. I was really being friendly and thought he would do a better job with the proper tools.

Back to today. He met up with me carrying the folding shovel and detector only - A TR detector I think - Not sure, what is a CScope Metadec III? Besides being around 18 years old! It had been raining the days before so things were a bit muddy. I noticed after 30 minutes he was perfectly clean. I had mud on my gloves and detector. I wasn't thinking how that could be possible and then I saw it. It looked like a war zone. I live in N

I think an interpreter might be a good thing so he understands what is expected..

Hey Elton,

Yeah, I sort of feel like that. I'll be nice about it. My German is good enough, the problem is does someone who has been hunting over 10 years, want to hear it? I'll communicate at his level of understanding, really the only way...

Thx,
EMS

I know what you mean. Some people are just like that. You can talk to them and explain the problem and then they will look at you like you're the stupid one and won't change their way. Just ask him one question = Would you like someone to come to your place or land (probably the guy doesn't own any land and never did) and destroy it like that??? If he never really had his own property or land it will be hard to understand to him, but if he does then it should work, I think. All he best

There are some people who are not able to understand the problem (such as this one). You could explain it 'till you're blue in the face, and still the message doesn't sink in....it is being sent, but not received. Often, with such people, there is no ill-intent, just an inability to comprehend that there is a problem, and/or what it is. I dont know if this applies to your neighbour. Maybe he is just not suited to hunting in places where you need to be careful and and apply, what is obvious to us, common sense.

i know you are just trying to be helpful, but the question begs,WHY is he doing this?
especially after you have instructed him on how to dig,and further explained the consequences
of his actions!..is he stupid? have a mental defect perhaps?.this "behavior" is what is "killing" the hobby!
just sayin'

Earthman, want a real solution. Go to the authorities that would deal with bad hole digging. Explain you are a responsible detectorist and have explained to this 'moron' that what he is doing is dangerous/probably illegal. Let them know you want to continue with this hobby. Tell them where this 'detriment to the hobby' detects. Let them see for themselves. If they won't do it, then videotape his 'detecting' techniques and turn it into the authorities. His attitude is simply %&*@, I'll do what I want and don't care what damage I do.
If you knew someone that was vandalizing cars....would you turn a blind eye to it ????

I realize he is your neighbor, but what is he going to do for you after he gets your hobby banned. Yeah, I have notified the police about my neighbors when they were doing illegal/stupid things. A neighbor doesn't always mean they are a friend. Just my opinion.
