True OR False

All metal detectors have a loop or coil. Each coil type has its own special characteristics. The two most common types are the concentric and the double "D". Both of these are wide scan coils.

this is a quote I came across about concentric an DD coils it states that both are Widescan keep in mind this quote is takin from a guys blog where he makes a living from MD info and advise

Depends on what you mean by widescan. I always took that to mean the width of the field under the coil and if that's the case, its false. The DD coil puts out a wiper blade like signal that does not come to a pinpoint in the soil, hence widescan. The concentric coils form a cone type signal which does go down to a point. They each have their strong points.

DD is also "widescan", concentric is not.

Here's a trivia question for folks...

"What was the first metal detector to use a DD-style coil, and what was the first metal detector to use a concentric-style coil?"

One answer per person, please!
