Troy X-3 problem

I got the troy today and immediately posted it for sale.
Looks great but no depth.
I put ads in and then had nothing to do so I tried a couple more batteries-same thing then I grabbed the coil wire where it goes into the coil and I can get a signal from a quarter all the way up to the control box and also if I touch the rod or wire it beeps like a coin.
I just emailed the guy I bought it from and asked for my money back-what do you think-It looks almost brand new. It's covered by paypal.it would only pick up a quarter by about 6 or seven inches. With the sensitivity all the way up-you can't touch the rod or the wire or you will get a beep like a coin.
I have to go to the ads now and say wait a minute.

Bad coil or broken wire in cable possibly take and make sure the coil connector is secure in the housing. I seen picks of the X-3 it looks very nice.
