are the Shadows better than the Tesoros are should I save some money and buy a tesoro. I am wanting a light weight compition machine with push button pinpoint. such as X5, X3, or Cibola, or Vaq.
or of you have any other suggestions.
thanks

Is the machine only going to be used for competition hunting ? If so, an X5 is overkill as well as a Vaquero ( in my opinion).

You cannot get a new X5 or X3, but a new Tesoro comes with a life time warranty.

For pure competition hunting, any of the mid range Tesoros would be the best. And they pin point so well, you really don't need push button pin point. I can X a target with my sons Compadre and it's dead on in the middle of the coil. Heck, he is 9 and pin points right on with it.

Now, if you want to use the machine for other applications, then either the Vaquero ( if you want manual GB ) or Cibola would be a great choice.

I had an X5...good detector, made very well and it was an all around great unit. If you can find a used on in good condition for a reasonable price, it may be worth it. Problem is, they were priced so high, that even used ones go for close to $600 with only 1 coil.

You can get a new Tesoro for way less, and get several coils. Even a new Vaquero with the stock and 5.3 inch coil will run you less than $525.

I bought a new X5 when they came out, and added a 7 inch coil when they became available. It was darn good, and had the best build quality of any detector I've seen, but for competition hunting it would be overkill. In addition to the current detectors therover listed, an older Silver Sabre

Well rover hit the nail on the head, you cannot beat the lifetime warranty .
As for pinpointing ,Tesoro's are famous for their accuracy and I have to admit that most of the time I don't have to even use my pinpointing .Just x mark the area and narrow your sweeps and you will have the target dead center.

I had a used X-5, nice machine, paid $600.
Reminded me of the CZ Fishers I have owned with extra bells and whistles with no meter.
I wasn't overly impressed. Yes, I know the X-5's were made by Fisher.

Had a Tesoro Tejon at one point, it was Ok but liked the X-5 better.

Had a Cortez, White's MXT and a Garret GTi1500 at the same time. The Cortez picked up everything the other two did, ended up selling the Cortez because the MXT was quicker in ID'ing. My wife kept the Garrett.

I still wish I kept the Cortez. I liked the lightweight. It's easy on the elbows when you have tennis elbow.

Also, had a bunch of other Tesoros, easy to use, lightweight, priced right and they find stuff. Maybe not as deep as some other brands but, you make up for it by digging sounds you would normally pass on using an ID machine and find some real goodies.

Just getting back into the hobby with a couple of bad elbow joints (sucks getting older), decided on a Cibola. Should have it in a week.

Now if Tesoro would come out with thier version of a "lightweight" Minelab Xterra-70 with a lifetime warranty. I think I can that there would be room on my charge card to get one.

thanks for the input. My wife is using the Silver more and more and says she like it more each use. I also got a Vaquero. The ground balancing is going to take some practice though.
