Troy Shadow Detectors ?

El

Active member
Does anyone have any news as to how Troy's new detector is coming along.

Thanks,

El

El I have asked the guys at the detector shop that question a few years back. They don't see it in the near future. What ever that means. Not much hope?? Happy Trails....Z

They have a website still sounds and looks current

apparently troy is done!..money's probably dried up,along with
manufacturer sponsorship...my guess anyway!..,however the man
is resilient, and may surprise us all!

I think your right. I kept my X3 and X5 all these years, though any repairs needed (never happened) would require a return to the U.S. the set charge was low compared to many/most other manufactures.
Lack of coils, even coil covers became a worry, so in the last year I've sold both. I think its going to be to hard to keep things going and the performance and abilities of some of the new machines on the market especially from Poland and Bulgaria will make it difficult for Troy to re enter the market.

I'm picking up a nice X3,so out of curiosity i called the troy customer service # some older guy answered and he was kind of vague about answers..Said something aout products in works blah blah.Is it true Fisher aka First Texas is handling the X3 and X5 parts wise? or production.

could have been troy hisself you talked to!
when troy was in his "hey day" so to speak, one would call his service line, and
get "troy!"..he appeared to be "chief, cook, and bottle washer " of the co.

Not much more he can say, doesn't want to diminish everyone's hopes of a new machine coming out to the point
Troy and his Shadows become a memory, such as other detector manufacturers have. The Shadows will live on
as a detector with a Cult following. Whatever he had in the works, is probably now old technology compared to what
recently has been put on the market. He should have put something out years ago, can't comment on his circumstances
that prevented that from happening, as I don't know. The X5 I had was a wonderful looking machine with some great
features and operated very smoothly. I would have kept it but, due to EMI in the areas I was detecting, made it useless.
Sort of like those current high end units now made, so I sold it off. Would have rather kept it than the Tesoro Tejon.

My advice is forget Troy models and move on. I do not think anything new is coming out and as was previously mentioned, most likely his technology is outdated. If you want a Troy-like machine, get a Tesoro Vaquero or Cibola and go hunting and enjoy yourself. Too many times people can get too hung up on specific machines without thinking on how and where to hunt.

Yep- have called Troy in times PAST, was a great guy, would tell you his self how to set up, solve problems or whatever, but I think he has finally folded his tent, a great guy,( havn't heard anything for a LOONG time now) and great detectors, I have just moved on, BUT should he ever come out with anything, If it is like the old times, It'll be a good one- Hated to give it up- But time goes on, and we all get older and have to move on too.

I went to his website and got is email address..And emailed him about parts availability. And he answered me back himself.Saying that they have a full parts and service available for X3 and X5 and parts and accessories on stock. The email came just before I wrote this and i emailed him yesterday. If its true I feel better because I just picked a X3 up..Is email is Troy3@airmail.net

i would like to "catch up" with him too!..i agree!..he is a good guy to talk with, and will help ya if he can!
he used to love to relic hunt.he and his wife were strong "t" users, and his main"thrust" was to attempt to improve
on the t's operating principals,as he really liked the 'concept" of the t's a lot!

Bulgaria has Notsi plus the Vista RG750 and Morsiani (the last two I was not to impressed with). Golden Mask now has several detectors all of which are very good. Nearly forgot Blisstool LTC 48 (good) and a claimed to be even better follow up thats just out.

Turkey has Notka. Expensive and mixed reviews.

Poland has Rutus (several models including the Proxima/Draco/Ducats).
There's the Atlantis range. Can't remember where they are made. Models include "Supersonic", the Imperator II and XM-4600B.

Lots of hoard hunters from Germany and places like the Czech Republic (Zetex) and Ukranine (Sledopyt).

About a year and a half I got a reply from Troy to an email I sent about how he was doing on his new machine. He said testing was going fine but he was going to modify a circuit board and that his new machine would be out in about 6 months. He hasn't answered any emails since regarding his new machine.

Looks like the New Fisher Gold Bug will fill the void with the19kHz freq that The X-5 had with other advantages to boot!!!
