Trouble With The Tejon Toggle

MarkCZ

Well-known member
Okay, my Tejon has a sticky toggle switch (sometimes it don't spring back to center)
Now, I know that I could send it to Tesoro and they would fix it no problem and probably a small fee.

But, before I dive into that I thought I would look at the other options.
I'm thinking a touch of TV/control cleaner may fix it up for the summer. (it has a very light weight electronic lubricant it in as well)
OR,
Could I just order a new toggle and install it myself?

My question here is, has anybody else had trouble out of the toggle?
Has anybody replaced it themselves?

Mark,
Sounds like my Tejon toggle. Sometimes it returns to center, sometimes not. Pretty easy to tell when it doesn't. I tried the electronic cleaner and that did not make one bit of difference for me. I use my finger to center it when I need to. Keep saying I am going to send it in but then grab it for a hunt and say I'll send it later. Mine seems to be worse when it is cold; although it could be that my fingers don't feel like centering it well when they are cold!

When I did my Cibola mod, I looked for a toggle like the Tejon's but found very few with a long toggle lever like the Tejon's. The few I found, I thought were a little pricey. I went with a shorted lever for the Cibola mod.
Cheers,

Mark if your toggle switch is defective the spray won't help but if it is dirty it very well could. I toy around with scanner radio's and the like and use electronic cleaner from time to time. I just got an old handheld scanner a few days ago and they left the adapter/charger plugged in who knows how long. When I removed the adapter the scanner would not run off of batteries. There is a little part in the jack that is inside the scanner that breaks the battery circuit to the scanner when the charger is plugged in and it was corroded and wasn't returning to the closed position to let the batteries operate the scanner. I give it a spray of cleaner and plugged the adapter in and out a bunch of times, it cleaned the crude out of it and made it work the way it is suppose to. Don't give it alot of spray as it is also a lubricant and could attrack dirt. I would give it a spray and work the switch in all positions a bunch of times and then wipe it down good or maybe take a hair dryer to it.

I tried just a electronic cleaner, but it was one that didn't lubricant. The switch worked pretty good for a day or so, but then when the cleaner dried out it started sticking again, that's why I was thinking some like "SkiWhiz" posted but clean it, then maybe leave just enough lube to help the spring action.

Has anybody tried to get one direct from Tesoro? or will they not sell ANY parts?

Mark

It wouldn't hurt to give Tesoro a call to find out, I know that you can get a toggle switch from White's, not sure if it would work in your Tejon or not.

I would bet you could find one on your 1266x.

Okay, yesterday I brought home some TV tuner spray cleaner/lubricate and turned the detector upside down and give the toggle a shot. This stuff has a problem it that it had to get just a small shot, it wants to UNLOAD the whole can in 1.5 seconds LoL! but I was able to get it finely.
It worked really well yesterday evening, (going by and checking it every once in awhile). Checked it this morning and no sticking, a little stiff pushing it forward but the rebound was good.
This evening its working even better, in that its not sticking nor is it stiff pushing it forward.
So, for now I'm good with the toggle.

Next!

It comes out quick that's for sure. If you ever have to apply it again you could spray it in some kind of container and use a q-tip or small paint brush to apply it. Just be careful that it doesn't splatter in your eyes while spraying it in the container.

The toggle is still working good today, good rebound.

Any good finds with the Tejon yet Mark?

No, "LittleJohn" I've not had my first chance of a detecting this year yet! I've got all these detectors and no time to get out.
I seen your thread about your trip out with the Vaquero, which sounded like its working out well for you.

Mark

Tesoro will not sell you parts and they won';t sell many parts to dealers either.
White's toggle will work, they have the long ones and they sell them directly off their website.
$8 Just call them and tell them what your looking for.

Well, took the Tejon out for its first hunt. I didn't find anything to write home about,
Foil,
Pull tabs,
Screw caps,
Can slaw,
Catsup pack,
One clad quarter,
One nickel,

One good thing in all that is Not One Piece Of Iron!

The bad was the toggle started sticking a bit today.
So, I'm going to do something with that,
I contacted Keith Wills about some of them in an email, if he gives me a fair price I'm thinking about getting three or four of them.
If that don't work the Tejon may find itself back to its creator!

The Whites toggle is an okay idea, but if I remember right its only momentary on the pull, it stays on when you push it, which would work, but if I can get it I would like it to be a double momentary, I'm hoping to get one with a boot on it if I can.
