Trouble with ground balance on wet salt sand

Reggie

I made several hunts on the beaches of Cancun last week, and found the MXT to do very well in DRY white sand, but miserably in wet sand (salty). I tried every trick in Jeff's book, to no avail. Discriminate setting would not work AT ALL in the wet sand. I tried Relic with all options: salt setting, ground balance, lock in salt before and after automatic setting, and the same for ground. I ended up locking in 50, and got the best depth and performance. The prospecting mode read the wet sand to be from 4 to 34, so 50 worked much better than 83 or automatic or salt ground balance. I was using the 5.3 coil, but now wish I had used the 4" excelerator. I did find 15 new coins in 7 hours, but nothing valuable. Does anyone have a good idea of what would work?

I had left my DD coil at the hotel 5 kms away, so I did the best I could with the factory 5.3. Next time, I'll know.
