Tripods/Monopods

Detector Man

Active member
a neighbor recommends that i use a Mono pod when taking pictures....even if the camera has a built in stabilizer....he claims that it will improve the quality of my photos....what do you think?

Do you use a tripod? or a monopod ? for every picture? Is it worth it?

im fighting the urge to get a Walmart monopod (10-15 dollars range)...i dont want to start (again) carrying stuff.

aid you in producing a good picture. I often use a tripod, especially when using a low shutter speed, or when using a heavy, long lens. I tried using a monopod, but just did not like it. Some folks like a monopod, some don't. I strongly recommend that everyone include a good, strong heavy tripod in their list of camera equipment. Kelley (Texas) :)

Up on a rock, or something, I use it for video, set it on a table, a wall, or most anything . Even use it to hold the camera sometimes. It helps and is small.

point and shoot digital camera, or even a bridge camera, but I need a heavier tripod for my Sony DSLR camera, especially if I am using one of my Minolta vintage lenses. The Sony DSLR and a Minota lens is heavy and you should use a heavy tripod. Detector Man made mention of using a monopod, and while I do not care to use one, my brother has one and he loves it. It is up to the individual to use what they think is best for them. Kelley (Texas) :)

I use a 6 inch tripod for shooting low to the ground object, but other than that I rarely use one. I will have to start using it more often.

Kelly, im giving the monopod a shot..i opted to get an adapter that will allow my camera more movement/flexability from side to side or back and forth...

the monopod is a Targus Red TG-MP6710 67" Camera/Camcorder Monopod $9.99
and the swivel part is (it maybe a specific item for a Go Pro camera only)Go Pro tripod Mount Model GTRA30 $7.99

If the swivel part does not fit im sure it is returnable to the store and ill hunt for another one that will fit...i like that flexibility

Some folks love using the monopod as an aid to make the camera more stable while taking the photo. I just got so use to using a tripod that I never became comfortable when using the monopod. It is a personal decision and you sould always use what works best for you. Kelley (Texas) :)

I heard it here and by my neighbor that my pictures will LOOK better...im not 100% convinced but im willing to give it a shot ....ill give a report down the road...

Some of us are participating in the hobby of photography using older equipment, operating on a budget. As such we do not have the ability to take pictures at a very high ISO without a lot of noise, thus we are often taking pictures at low shutter speeds and etc. This creates a situation where camera movement becomes a factor and the tripod, and even the monopod aids the photographer in preventing camera movement while taking pictures under these circumstances. Kelley (Texas) :)

when i used a film camera , oftentimes i did use a tripod to avoid the "shakes" of the camera at very low speed 1/15 and lower for me,,,no issue like that yet with my Sony HX100V P/S ..
.

I use a monopod and tripod, both Bogen brand. I couldn't live without them. I shoot a Nikon D3 and a 400mm nikor 2.8

The D3 is a serious camera :) 'grats !! a monopod AND a tripod...yes you are serious photographer..

I finally bought a monopod but i hope its not a sign of anything but i forgot to take it when we went out of town recently....

While I have a monopod, I do not use it very often, I would rather use the tripod. Kelley (Texas) :)
