Trimpots on a 1235x.. what does what?

Hi, I just picked up a 1235x & was thinking of doing some mods on it. Looking at the circuit board I see 3 trimpots and was wondering about thier respective functions. Anybody know? ..Willy.

I will look around. I used to ahve the official Fisher Service Manual for the 1235 and it included the tuning/adjustment procedure for the pots. Years ago Fisher and Whites would sell you the schematics for any detector fo thiers that you owned. THe 1235 is a great little detector. I used it for years for beach and lake hunting until I swtiched to the Minelabs. Though I still liked it better for freshwater as it is quite sensitive to small gold for a detector of it's age and frequency. It's also one of the only single frequency VLF's out there that does NOT detect the hole that you dig in the wet sand on an Ocean Beach. Even if it fills with saltwater. If it's still beeping when you sweep the coil over the hole the target is still down there. I will look around but it may take me a few days to a week as I have moved twice since I packed that stuff away. The only thing I am sure of is that I didn't throw it away as that was one of my favorite detectors!

Hey, thanks! I had a 1225x a number of years ago and kinda liked it & decided to try the 1235x.. it was a good price. I've read a few posts relating how sensitive it is to small gold jewellry and that got me thinking. How would you rate it against the Tesoro detectors for small gold? ..Willy.

Probably pretty close to the older Tesoro's but not as good as the newer machines like the Tejon, Vaquerro, or Cibola. Keep in mind that it is a 6-7khz machine. The newer Tesoro's run in the 14-18khz range which makes them more sensitive to small gold.

All I can see that conforms to what I consider a mini pot is readily visible. Just 3 white plastic pots. ..Willy.

I still haven't located the Service Manual but I know I still have it somewhere as I would never throw soemthing like that away!!!! I will keep looking!!!

There are actually 3 trim pots on the cb...tof them are at the 9 o'clock position in the picture. One is about 1/4" in from the edge and the other is about 3/4" in. They are grey colored rectangle boxes with brass colored screw adjustments. The other one is smaller and blue in the bottom right hand corner. There are also the white variable resistors you mentioned. I would not mess with them until you find out what each one does and then only if you fully understand what each adjustment REALLY does.

I forgot to mention...Beachcomber...I also have a 1235-X and if you find the service manual, I would love to get the same information. Maybe even work a deal to get a copy of the service manual. I am an electronics tech and am sure I could use the information.
